14 month old and tantrums- wdyd?
So, my DD can be the cutest sweetest most well behaved little girl 99.99% of the time but occassionally she is having these temper tantrums when she doesnt get her way....throws head back, throws herself back to land on floor...etc... Is there discipling at 14 months. I try and say no firmly when she pulls a tantrum but in the middle of the screaming it doesnt work and I wind up giving in....out of not knowing how to calm her...it only last for a sec and I can usually distract her with something else...but is there another way to handle it?

DS is the same age, and same way. he screams BLOODY MURDER if I tell him he can't hit the TV, touch a lightbulb, etc. No advice, but I am hoping it's just a stage.

Like for instance...in gymboree today (now we havent gone since May so she has a completely personality now) I took a toy away bc it was "clean up" time nad she threw a fit, Tried to put her on my lap for an activity..and she threw a fit bc she rather walk aroiund etcc....get me...and then in the next minute she is the sweestes thing1 I dont get it!!!

My daughter is the same exact way! Lovable little girl with the greatest, sweetest attitude 99.99% of the time. Then there are times - like when I take her out of the bathtub where she arches her back and throws a tantrum. I just KNOW she is going to smack her head on the changing table one of these days in her rage over who knows what.
I *think* it's just because they don't know how to communicate with us.
I hope so anyway...........

Mason does the same thing. These kids are so much alike. LOL!
He's such a sweet and happy boy, but if I take away something he's playing with that he's not supposed to he'll wave his arms for a moment and almost whine/growl. Hard to explain, but you can just tell he's not happy. Usually I try and distract him and explain to him that what he had was not a toy and I'd give him a toy or I'd move him from the area he was in to a safer area he can play

Going through this now with my 2nd; did the same with my first. Honestly - move their flailing bodies to a safe spot where they're less likely to hurt themselves and let them wail away. Giving in will only prolong it and make it worse.
It is a stage - I hated 10-16 months with #1; #2 seems to be a bit behind - started at 12 mos, I'm just hoping it doesn't last until 18!

Ignore ignore ignore
I would walk right out of the room on her (keeping one eye on her of course). If she gets what she wanted than she'll learn that tantrums work.
They'll pass quickly.

I always walked away. I would walk into another room and not give my ds the attention he wanted. When he calmed down, he'd then come find me.
I don't put up with them. I don't give in to them either because then you're just feeding the beast.

Re: 14 month old and tantrums- wdyd?
DD is 14 months and is doing this. I completely ignore it. I dont even try to redirect. She gets over it in like 30 seconds when I completely ignore. but when I try to talk her out of it or redirect or whatever, she keeps it up. Harder though when you are out in public and people are staring at you!

Re: 14 month old and tantrums- wdyd?
ds started this recently... he's 16 months now....
he will take his head and actually throw it down to hit the carpet and scream bloody murder, trying to tell him "no" doesn't stop it, just started trying to ignore it, but then he does multiple bangs.....
