IMO, from people that I know in REAL life...this is more normal than 18 month olds who say 2 or 3 word strings. I never met one of those 18 month olds. Though, I guess there are exceptions.
Ok, im not sure but are you saying that most of the replies are lying?
No, that is not what I'm saying. I don't want other people who read these threads (yes, there ARE other people who read this and take from it) to think that is the norm. I never once said or implied that people are lying. I was simply stating that I have NEVER in my life met an 18 month old who says three word strings that are not just an immitation of sounds that you just made. That doesn't mean said 18 month olds don't exist, it's just not as common as you would think from reading this thread.
And, since my quote was taken away from the rest of the post, I want to reiterate that there are things that some people consider two words, which IN MY OPINION are not and I personally don't consider two words.
Here is another example. I always thought Steven was saying ma ma. He wasn't. He was saying mmmmmmaaammmmm (making the m and soft a sounds). Only now does he say a clear out ma ma. Where it is an actual word and not just immitations of sounds strung together to what we want to think are words.

I don't think that's her implication. I think she's just saying that not ALL kids speak so early.
ok

Re: 17-18 month old vocabulary
My DD was an early talker and it hasn't stopped or slowed down. I know her speaking so well, so early is not the norm. She was speaking in 3-4 word sentences at 18 months.

My nephew is 2 ish and my dd talks more than he does. I also see it with a few of the kids at daycare. A little girl her age dosent have as much vocab either.

Re: 17-18 month old vocabulary
Logan has maybe 10 words?
And not consistant at all.
Mama Dada Uh-oh No Fish Quack Quack Moooo Roar That Row-Row (for boat)
Mostly he makes sounds like he thinks they are words and gets frustrated when I don't know what he's asking for.
I liken his enuniciation to what a deaf person sounds like when they speak (if that makes any sense).
And he's finally starting to pick up on some signs.
He's just moved to Toddlers this week and the kids in his class are all older and talking, so I'm thinking he'll pick up on more soon.

Im not here to fight, I asked a question and since I also stated that I wasnt sure, because things can be read wrong and that is how I read it- wrong.
The REAL life comment confused me.

Re: 17-18 month old vocabulary
Gavin is 15 months and has a very good vocabulary. He also strings together two words i.e. mama up..mama back..open book, all done etc..he also says:
mama dada this that airplane up back pasta choo choo papa cup up open Kyle (daycare kid) Skyler (daycare kid) Matt (daycare kid) car bike button belly button sprites (jonny & the sprites) more apple banana berry book socks kitty cat ball hi, bye uh oh no push dog ice done
I think he says a new word every day..but I"m a huge talker and he's been in a small daycare since 8 weeks (not that I think that helps but maybe)
