No advice - It lasted for years in my house. I found the best solution was not to talk to him and just hold him if need be. The more interaction the more upset he got.

ITA with this. I usually just sit her in the living room, put on a show, leave her stuffed animal, blankie and some milk within view and leave the room.

For me, even holding her sets her off...she arches her back and wiggles out, then when she's down she is clawing to get back up. It is insane.

Yep. When DD wakes up this way she doesn't want to be cuddled. Talking to her makes her worse. I usually sit with her and put on a show and thankfully it doesn't last too long. We go through phases where it may happen for a few days and then she's fine for a few weeks and then it may start up again.

OMG thanks for posting this. I was seriously thinking something was WRONG with my DS. He started this around 17 months and is now 20 months. Some days it takes me hours to calm him down and then the littlist thing sets him off again. There is NO soothing him, he doesn't want to be cuddled. Only extreme distraction helps (if anything does). Its almost as if he doesn't want to be awake yet but refuses to nap any longer as well. If I leave him in the crib he is upset/if i take him out he is upset. It is sooo frustrating and ruins my afternoons/evening sometimes. Also we finally transitioned to one nap BUT it never lasts more the an hour if we are lucky(he used to take 2 45-60 minute naps which left him so much more rested) . Must be a stage/or the age. I feel your pain and thanks for sharing!!
