I really will never understand why people are still drinking and driving ,even after know the consequences  His poor family

how about, youre 43 years old, and its 4 oclock in the afternoon. grow up, get a life. now bc of you, some innocent CHILD is gone.
i will never understand this. its to the point where in getting so angry at these people that i dont even know.

I totally agree. I live right up the road from where it happened.
The woman must have been going pretty fast too. It's a quiet residential area with tons of stop signs. She must have blown all of them because she hit the car with such force.
It's soo tragic. My heart goes out to the family.

I was going to mention her age/time as well. The scene looked like two teenagers doing the WRONG thing. You would never think this was a 43 yr olds accident. In a station wagon no less. I wonder if she has kids

I just don't understand. If you KNOW you are going to drink, just plan to take a cab or public transportation. How hard is it, really?
ETA: No, your judgment is not good when you are drunk, but that is why you should PLAN accordingly.

Did the 19 year who was killed run the stop sign or did the drunk driver?
The article is making it sound like he ran the stop sign and collided with her...
and she was drunk.
Either way- I can't help but think that if she was sober she might have seen him and stopped sooner...

I think HE ran the stop sign and was t-boned by the drunk.
Who knows if she would have been able to stop had she been sober....

I saw that too. It does say he "rolled" through the stop sigh.
I'm sure her lawyer will use that in her favor.

I'm confused too - from the way the article was written it sounds like the accident is the boys fault - that he ran several stop signs and as a result of his negligence, she hit him, and that she 'happened' to be legally drunk.
I'm not blaming the poor kid, but the article really is ambiguous. Either way you have to wonder if she wasn't drunk, if she would have seen him going through the stop sign and been able to stop in time. Or was this the result of just bad luck on both sides?
The poor kid and his family - i feel for her kid too, he's probably going to be traumatized after being in an accident like that.

One of my close friends works at the church this happened in front of and saw the whole thing as she was leaving work. The kid was the one that sped through the stop sign. As people were talking, he apparently had a bad habit of speeding and going through stop signs - from what the neighbors said.
In no way does this make the woman "right" (obviously with the amount she drank and then drove her kid) or the incident on a whole any less sad or tradgic, though
for everyone involved

Not that it excuses the mother...but that kid ran a stop sign AND wasn't wearing a seatbelt.....what a recipe for disaster.

And she had her child in the car.
The driver wasn't completly innocent - he rolled thru a stop sign.
