1st appointment update
So today I went for my first appointment to see what was going on and if they could figure out where the spotting was coming from. Surprise, surprise ::sarcasm:: they couldn't figure out what was causing the spotting.
My LMP was on 9-21-10. I o'ed on 10-7 (cd17). I tested positive on 10/20 (13dpo). Based on my ovulation date, I'm approximately 5wk3days.
The sono tech saw 2 empty sacs. One sac was a bit irregular in shape and the dr said he maybe this one will disappear, it's too early to know for sure. Maybe that is what is causing the spotting. Who knows.
Are empty sacs normal for this stage in the game? I think I know the answer, but humor me please. I go back next Monday for another sono. In the meantime he sent me for another round of betas. I should get today's results tomorrow and then Wednesday's results on Thursday. Hopefully those #s will stay nice and strong and we'll have a better idea of what's going on.
Would anyone care to share some stories or information? Thank you! Sorry this is so long...

Re: 1st appointment update
click on the number 5 for week 5 and it shows you a pic of what you should see...
click me
I think you would just see a yolk sac, the baby is too small to be seen. It says the baby is smaller than a grain of rice at 5 weeks... so I wouldn't expect to see anything this early.
I'm going for a sono next monday.... I don't know what I will see even at 6 weeks.....

ugh, that doesn't look too good. At my sono, the tech didn't see any fetal poles or yolk sacs (yet). I hope it is just too early.

week 4 looks a lot like what you are describing. Are you positive of your O date? Also, I'm thinking just being off by a few days would make a huge difference in this case. And not only that but if you have a late implanter... that could throw you back to the week 4 pics too.

Re: 1st appointment update
PS and I cut and copied this bit of info for you too.... While a gestational sac is sometimes seen as early as during the 4th week of gestation, it may not be seen until the end of the 5th week, when the serum hCG levels have risen to 1000 -1500 mIU
It really might just be too early.... don't lose hope....

Hmmm, interesting... I figured I was behind a bit because I don't have 28day cycles and I had just come off of a chemical pregnancy. So, I told the sono tech when I had ovulated and when my LMP was and that when I tested positive, I was already on CD30. I asked if the sono looked "right" based on those numbers and she said "It looks like a 5 weeker" what the heck does that mean?

According to my CBEFM, I ovulated on 10-7, CD17. Maybe this is just a late implanter

This is what I was just going to ask you - if you don't have 28 day cycles, then you can't go exactly off of anything you see online. Everything is based on 28 days, so don't stress! I think you will be fine!

I used this calculator, is it any good? It let me plug in my LMP and my length of cycles. Maybe because it doesn't account for ovulation date?
Stupid calculator!

If you ovulated late don't count by LMP date. You will most definitely be off. I would count by O date and then add 2 weeks on... that seems to be more accurate.
Since I ovulated late too... I did some research and this seems to be the best way to calculate.

Thank you! I'll try to figure that out I can't promise anything though! My brain hasn't been functioning as of late.

Re: 1st appointment update
When I was 6 weeks all they saw as a gestational sac. They had me come back a few days later and saw no change. By 7 weeks they saw 2 healthy heartbeats and fetal pole!
I think as long as your numbers consistently rise, try not to worry!!! You are still really early.

FTR, I still can't figure out about how far along I am. Am I really stupid or is it confusing to calculate when you ovulate later on?

You're not stupid. It's IMPOSSIBLE to calculate when you O late.
You just have to wait until your 7-8 week appointment where the OB can take measurements of your baby and use that to determine how far along you are. Measurements taken then are most accurate in determining a due date. Usually docs won't change your EDD unless measurements change by more than a week one way or another later on.
Online calculators said I'm due 12/9/10, but I'm due 1/7/11 based on early measurements (I have very irregular cycles). At my most recent sono, the baby's measuring around 4 days ahead, but they don't change your date this late in the game (I'll be 31 weeks this week).
I know it's so hard to wait, but your next appointment will be here before you know it! Try to stay positive!!!
ETA: Ok, I keep rereading your post to try to make a guess, and I'm torn between saying about 6/30/11 and 7/2/11 or so for your EDD... but I'm no doctor!!

Re: 1st appointment update
Thank you all for your responses
The more I've researched, the more I'm finding that I'm just about 5wks on the nose. I've used due date calculators based on "conception" which I've input as my O date and then I'm getting 5wks even. So if conception occurred after that, I'm just shy of 5wks.
If it weren't for all of you pointing out that the calculators weren't for late ovulations and long cycles; I'd have no idea.
I'll update tomorrow with recent beta & progesterone levels. Wish me luck!!

I did find one calculator that calculated based on ovulation date... it literally said ovulation date... but I only came across the one. Found it from a google search.
You seem to be right in my realm... I'm just about on the 5 week mark. My first sono is next Monday.
When are you going for your Beta tests?

Re: 1st appointment update
I was gonna say that while you might have O'd on that day -- conception might not have occurred for up to 5 whole days! So if you are just shy of 5 wks, then what they saw would be just about right.
I wish I knew about how it works with more than one sac -- but the one that isn't irregular, I think sounds right on target.
Praying for good beta #s tomorrow and a TRUCK load of sticky vibes.
In my pics on here you can see what they saw at 4 wks -- and then at 6 wks -- and see what a difference it is. So I would imagine at 5 wks you still wouldn't see much at all.

I had my first beta & progesterone today. My doctor is calling me tomorrow with the results. I go for the second round on Wednesday.
My first set of betas from last week were:
10/25: 1067. Progesterone 21.4 10/27: 2104
I had a draw today so they should have significantly increased since then

Re: 1st appointment update
Oh so your numbers are good. I hear it also take over 1000 to see anything substantial on a sono... and you were just over that number, but barely on the 25th.
My numbers are just behind you.... I'm at 1357 or 1387 as of today. I think you are possibly a few days to a week ahead of me. I ovulated on Oct 10 - 11 (CBEFM gives the 2 days so IDK which one of them). I think I'm just at the 5 week mark now. My due date on the calculator I mentioned said July 3 - 4th... so you can use my numbers as a frame of reference for an idea.
