1st birthdays in october

to all the october moms who will be celebrating their dc 1st birthdays

where are u having it?

dh birthday is oct 2nd and it falls on a sat which works our great.

i had my nieces 1st birthday here at my house but it was during the summer - the kids were in the pool there was pony rides etc. but now that ds bday is in october im kinda nervous t the weather will be crappy and we all have to be indoors

dh and i are thinking maybe we should have it elsewhere but that would prob cost alot more than we could spend

suggestions?

I have no idea either, I just brought this up to dh last night. My DD's b-day will be columbus day this year so we will probably have the party that weekend. I was actually thinking that we would have it at the house/outside and have a BBQ...I dunno I feel like the weather is still in the 70s that time of year but it could get iffy.

DS will be one on October 24th. We are renting my hubby's firehouse for his party. We get a good deal and I won't worry if the weather doesn't cooperate. Which would be my luck....

Re: 1st birthdays in october

DDs birthday is the 7th - I might push it a week or two earlier in order to have an outdoor party. I will most likely rent a tent bc my house cannot accommodate all of the people we'll be inviting. I don't want to have it at a hall or restaurant - did that for the christening and don't want to go that big again.

that was our original plan but the firehouse stopped renting it out right after we had my baby shower there bc a party they rented it out to literally broke toilets in the bathroom and left a complete mess.

That sucks....We had a problem with rentals a while back and they also stopped renting it out. But now there is so much paperwork to fill out holding the renter responsible for EVERYTHING that we haven't had any issues...But you are right. It only takes one a$$ to ruin it for everyone else...

Re: 1st birthdays in october

DD is the 21st - we had hers at our home for her 1st b-day. Her 2nd was at Gymboree and her 3rd will be at White Post Farms.

ETA - I got married on 10/1 and it was a beautiful day - sunny and high 70's. You never know!

Re: 1st birthdays in october

For DS's 1st bday we had it at a restaurant. But we had his 2nd and 3rd bday parties at the house. We've been fairly lucky with the weather. His 2nd bday was a little chilly, but it was dry and the kids were outside the whole time. This year we had a petting zoo and it was supposed to rain, so we did the petting zoo in the garage and ate inside. It never even rained!

Re: 1st birthdays in october

more than likely it will be up at our house upstate, on October 16 since a cranky lady was able to talk me down from a ledge! Chat Icon

we may rent tents again, but honestly, it's not THAT cold and it fit rains no one will be sitting out there, tent or not (I learned that lesson with my baby shower...$400 later no thanks!!)

a cool crisp fall day doesn't bother me...we can light a fire in the fire pit if people get cold and tailor the festivities towards cool weather activities.

we'd also have the house set up for people to sit inside...especially people like Gossip Queen, if her and her would be newborn little lady were able to make the trip (hint hint and Chat Icon )

we could also either buy or rent heating lamps to keep on the deck.

all of this would be childproofed, of course Chat Icon

a sweater and a light jacket can go a long way!!!!

maybe we should all have our parties on the same day and PRAY FOR SUN!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

DS's bday is the 3rd. We had his christening at a hall so we are going really low key with his bday. We might just have a couple of family members over for a casual early dinner. Not sure yet.

We will be having DDs party on the 16th. We haven't decided on a location yet but if we have it at home I am planning to set stuff up outside (hoping for good weather Chat Icon). If we don't have it at home it will be at a restaurant nearby.

I feel like October is going to be here before we know it! Chat Icon

Re: 1st birthdays in october

Colin's is oct 30. This yr we are to Disney (as we did for Ryan's first bithday). Plus my 5th wedding anniversary is the 28th so we might hit The Breakers for the night.

Going forward I need to scale it back. Both boys have birthdays on colder dates so we will always be hosting something out.

I'm renting my BIL's Firehouse for a big party too on the 16th (DS was born the 19th). We're having about 75 people (maybe more!) I don't want to worry about the weather and an outdoor party. It's too risky for the fall!

My DS's is Oct 12 and we have had all 4 of his parties at home, in the back yard so far !

Every year was sunny, except for last year where it was overcast and we ended up renting a tent just in case and never ended up even needing it Chat Icon

Re: 1st birthdays in october

We had my DD's 1st birthday (10/10) outside in our yard. It was a beautiful fall day 64 degrees. We did get a tent just in case. It cost a fotune and to this day I am still saying we should have had it at a party place!
