1st Brithday Party - Picnic in the Park
We will have major construction going on next door all summer so we booked a pavillion @ a Park for DS's 1st BDay-
I want to keep it simple since we have to bring everything in and I obviously won't have access to a kitchen !!
I was thinking huge platters of sandwiches, salads, and BBQing Burgers/Hotdogs w/ all of the obvious additions to that type of BBQ/Picnic stuff - We will probably have about 100 people.
And then the BDay Cake, cupcakes, brownies, fruit etc.
It's in the middle of May, so the weather is still iffy - it could be 85 degrees or 50 and raining - who knows?

Re: 1st Brithday Party - Picnic in the Park
We booked Cedar Creek - it was $155 for the space, and $50 for the alcohol permit -
Marjorie Post Park was free - but the facilities looked really dump - y IMO.
I did Sean's in the backyard, but the tent rental alone cost me $550 -
and this year I have a lot of work to do in our yard that I don't want to have to rush through to get done in time for the party - not to mention the major construction that's going on next door
I want to keep the food as simple as possible since we have to bring everything in - they have BBQs - but they're small - I'm thinkiing I may just do cold food - Huge platters of sandwiches and wraps and salads ........really more 'picnic' style.

i forgot about cedar creek. sandwiches are a good idea...you could even do a hero or have a cold cut platter and do make your own sandwiches. egg salad, chicken salad etc

Re: 1st Brithday Party - Picnic in the Park
I'd go full throttle with the picnic theme. I'd get giant platters of fried chicken (Stop and Shop has them cheap), Big Jugs of Lemonade, Cole Slaw, Potato Salad, Caprese Salad, Sandwich Platters, Fresh Fruit and Birthday cake. You can have some burgers and dogs with condiments too.

oooh - lemonade. Good idea
My only issue with the hot good (ie: Fried chicken - another good idea) is keeping it hot.
The BBQs there are VERY small
