1st doctors appointment and a little upset
Sorry if this is long and rambling but I am just annoyed and have been since my appointment at 11:30 today...
When I got my BFP I called my doctors office to see when I should come in for an appointment. they booked me an appointment right away.
So we go today, all excited and as I am getting the sono done the tech asked me when my last period was so I explained it was 9/16 but I have very off cycles since coming off of birth control and i didnt ovulate until 10/13 so I didnt feel like I was 7 weeks along but rather 5 weeks when you do the math. She was like yeah based on your period you should be 7 but you are measuring behind. so make an appointment to come back in 2 weeks and we will see if this is going to stick WHAT--WHY WOULD YOU SAY THAT!
So then I meet with the nurse practicioner and she is also like you are really early and you should come back in a few weeks to see if this will stick and if you are actually pregnant or if this wont progress AGAIN WHY WOULD YOU SAY THIS
I mean we saw the sac and the little bean and everything was measuring appropriately for 5 weeks but they totally blew me off. She had her foot half way out the door when she asked me if I had any questions and rushed us out because we were too early to see if I was really pregnant and if this would progress---SO WHY DID YOU HAVE ME MAKE AN APPOINTMENT SO EARLY!!!!!
NO ONE SAID CONGRATULATIONS OR ANYTHING. I was just really hurt by this whole thing today and it was suppose to be so exciting!!!!!
Sorry I know this is so long and thank you if you got this far....I just needed to get this out

Re: 1st doctors appointment and a little upset
Mr dr's office is weird like this too (not rude though) I told them so many times when I ovulated and they insisted by going by LMP. I made a bet with the sono tech before my first sono how many exact days the dr. would have been off with my due date, and of course, I was right. She got a kick out of telling him I dont know why they just wont go by ovulation date if you are sure when it was.

Re: 1st doctors appointment and a little upset
Wow, that is really frustrating! I definitely think you should change Dr's as well, if that's the kind of callous approach the staff is going to have, I would not feel good about enduring that through your pregnancy
I am sorry they were such a-holes, but I would try to not let them get to you...maybe look at it as a good thing that you found out so early how much they suck. Maybe now you can switch to a practice with a more positive attitude.
I just think their wording was very inappropriate, it may be early but to say "lets see if it sticks" it soo insensitive.
Good Luck and keep positive, they are just a couple of people who said dumb things!
Here's to a healthy 9 months

Re: 1st doctors appointment and a little upset
Sorry, crasher-- but I am just really sorry they treated you like that!
It's sort of like they are so used to pregnant ladies coming in and out everyday and they do this ALL THE TIME! It's like they forget that this is your first time doing this and they forget to give some support!
We learned in special ed (I'm a teacher) that we see kids with special needs ALL THE TIME, but for a parent with a kid first getting classified, it's a VERY big deal!! I always explain things to parents very carefully and know full well it may be the first time they have heard of the terms 'learning disabled' or 'focusing issue' ..... I wish the staff at your doctor's office was more empathetic and supportive!
Sorry if I rambled!
Good luck!!!

Re: 1st doctors appointment and a little upset
i would defenitely try to find a new doctor. Their negativity serves no purpose plus odds are everything will be fine! I was so worried in the beginning that everything was going ok with my pregnancy that I overlooked things and I now that I am almost due I am regretting not checking out other practices.

ITA! change your doctor, if your first experience is like this, you communication won't be better, and what I've learned changing 3 docs is that you and your doc have to be on the same page.

Re: 1st doctors appointment and a little upset
Thank you for all the responses and well wishes!!
The funny thing is this doctor came highly recommended from a lot of girls on this website. I did not deal with the doctor today just the nurse practicioner and the sono tech. the doctor herself has been great in the past each time I have seen her. I might give them a second chance since my appointment is already schedules in 2 weeks but I will definitely be looking around for other names and practices. If anyone has any recommendations I would love to hear them. I am in the Mineola area?
Thank you again ladies, you made me feel much better!

I'm glad you are feeling better.
I just wanted to say I changed docs 3 times because all too often I was talking with the physician assistant or nurse practitioner, and the ones I met where complete idiots. My new OB is excellent she spends 30 minutes with me (fully clothed) in her office after each exam talking to me. Her staff never talks to me other to tell me when my appointment is. Doc makes decision with me about when my next appointment is, and barks orders to the staff. I love her, she makes me feel like gold!
Sorry I'm not in Long Island, or I would have recommendations for you.

Re: 1st doctors appointment and a little upset
Switch doctors. This is a sign of what could be to come. Apparently, they don't listen to you and that is a problem, because from when you O'ed, you are perfectly where you should be.
While I understand what they were saying-they want to check to make sure your pregnancy is progressing properly, their bedside manner was terrible. No wonder you were upset. Who wants to hear that?

Re: 1st doctors appointment and a little upset
I would definitely find a new practice! You will have 9 months of these people and you need a bunch of people that will be by your side every step of the way! Even for the stupid stuff, or you will never be comfortable asking for your real issues.
I'm sorry they were so insensitive!

They did eventually take the blood work but they seemed reluctant to do it at first. The nurse practicioner made a comment like ---Well, we could do all the blood work now (I think it was like 8 viles) but we could also wait the two weeks when you return so that you dont go through all of this now for any unnecessary reason UM, Hello I took 3 pregnancy tests and we just saw everything on the sono and everything was looking good for where I am at--5 weeks! So I had them take the blood work. I tried to explain again about how long my periods were ect...but she just kept telling me with my cycles it is so much harder to get pregnant blah blah blah....why are you telling me this- I am already pregnant!!!!

just check into how often you actually see the doctor... in my old ob practice you only saw the dr during the first 12 weeks and the last 8 weeks... the rest of the time you dealt with the midwife or np... also, can the np be the one to come and actually deliver your child??? It may sound like odd questions but i had a horrible ob practice last time around and i did stick it out and wish i hadnt... the whole pregnancy and delivery process was awful and i changed after my 6 week appointment

Re: 1st doctors appointment and a little upset
that's terrible. I have the BEST doctor, but everyone in her office, from the front desk to the triage nurse just SUCKS! Their bedside manner and attitude constantly makes me want to switch practices. That seems to be a pretty constant situation for doctor's offices. I'm sorry your going through this, but try not to think about it, it sounds like everything is going perfectly for you so far!
