Re: 1st doctors appointment and a little upset

The PA was like that at my OB/GYN. She told me "if you start to miscarry, there is nothing we can do, so don't call us" Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I told the OB/GYN about it and at my next visit, the PA was no longer employed there. I don't know if she had a history or what but I thought her comment was way out of line.

Re: 1st doctors appointment and a little upset

They basically said the same thing to me and I literally felt like I was going to faint (I went when I was only 4wks). I was so upset, not to mention alone b/c DH couldn't make the appt. While I like the docs there I ended up switching for that reason (and due to location). Wonder if it is the same office?

Also-I have learned that for these nurses in particular they deal with this everyday and just speak in pratical terms and do not take your feelings into consideration even though it is new to you. It is very upsetting to hear this.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: 1st doctors appointment and a little upset

Again, thank you all so much for the many responses, hugs and advice. I am going to keep my appointment that I already made (in 2 weeks) and hopefully talk to the doctor herself and see what the deal is. If I do not feel comfortable at the next appointment and the doctor does not give me the answers I am looking for I am definitely going to switch.

Thank you so much for all your help

I think I figured out what doctor from your posts and I am glad I didn't switch to that doctor. I was considering it, but it was impossible to get an appointment.

I love my doctor's office, they are in Bethpage, though. Not sure whether you are willing to go there. The office staff are all kind as can be, I like both doctors and the PA there and have been going there for several years.

Re: 1st doctors appointment and a little upset

I'm really sorry to hear this. My periods were really off too after BCP and I had no idea when I ovulated but my OB was actually pretty sensitive to the issue when I came in the first time, which was like a day or two after the BFP and 50-something days in to the cycle (a little incredulous - asked when I tested last before the BFP, etc. but still very nice and professional). And since it was important to try to date the pregnancy, he still did a sono and there was nothing - I mean NOTHING to see - only a thickening endometrium, which he said was consistent with a very early pregnancy - by the way, that's also consistent with post-ovulation generally but notice how he was kinda positive about it (I was about 4, 4 1/2 weeks then). The office still took bloodwork to check my HCG levels and made me come back in two days later to make sure they were rising, and then again, two weeks later to make sure there was a heartbeat, and then another week later to make sure the heartbeat was beating faster (it was slow the first time), and throughout all of these visits, although my OB was definitely cautious and wanted me to be cautious, never did he or any of the staff say anything even approximating what was said to you. And I was congratulated even at the first visit. If it were me, I would not go back. I understand why you might want to keep the appointment you already have, but it's just as easy to make a new one and still see someone else in 2 weeks to confirm everything's progressing well. 1 in 5 pregnancies end in miscarriage so I get why the staff would be cautious, but there's a difference between being cautious and professional and just being a plain jerk, which is what they both were to you.

Re: 1st doctors appointment and a little upset

Would you mind FMing me with who this Dr is?
I am new to all this too and very scared of Dr's and I need someone who supports me 100%.
I also have a very long cycle and I know pretty much 100% the day I ovulated etc- and it is NOT the standard 2 weeks after my last period.
I just am concerned now about having to deal with this at my first appt...
