1st RE visit after BFP - what to expect?
So, I've been POASing since 7dpiui and they've all come back positive so far, though the intensity of the 2nd line has become somewhat less strong, but still unquestionably there. Today is 12dpiui.
I'm a natural worrier, so that means I'm terrified and very scared that it's ectopic or that there are high order multiples in there because of testing + so early and having such strong symptoms.
Anyway, I see the RE this week. What should I expect out of the visit?
to all!

You might be better of posting this or at least x-posting this on/to PG, since most of us haven't gotten to that step yet... GL!

Re: 1st RE visit after BFP - what to expect?
No trigger this month, so I think there wasn't anything to wait out. I had back-to-back iuis following 100mg of Clomid. The RE said she saw one follicle. I did not ask the size.
I've x-posted to the Pregnancy board, btw. I've never had a BFP before and would appreciate learning about what others' experience has been during this visit -- regardless of the ultimate outcome. Thanks.

Re: 1st RE visit after BFP - what to expect?
Well, the first visit will probably be a beta and then a few days later another beta to check for doubling. Somewhere in your 6th week the RE will probably do an ultrasound to check for the baby and see how it is measuring. You may even see a little flicker of a heartbeat then. If all is well, you may be released to your OB. My DD is from 50mg Clomid/trigger/b2b IUI.

I agree with Shannon. I am going to say this with the utmost respect to you, I am very happy for you, we all are that you are pregnant, but so many of us that post here and some others who just lurk, have been through miscarriages, recurrent pregnancy loss, treatment after treatment for years to become pregnant and some have never even gotten that bfp on a hpt.
I know you are so excited about your pregnancy..we are excited for you, but please, these kinds of questions should be directed to the pregnancy board, it's really not appropriate here.

Re: 1st RE visit after BFP - what to expect?
Wow...I'm a little suprised at some of the responses. She's a regular poster and asking a legit question. It's not like she's five months PG.....
Anyway, most RE's will do a beta and if it comes back positive do another beta either a few days or a week later. If the numbers are doubling nicely, they will schedule you for a sono. As soon as they get a heartbeat, you will be released to an OB.
And Congratulations!!!!!

ITA with Gerty - the girl has done an IUI so that is obviously (to me anyway) an IF question.

Thank you. Thank you for your response. Thank you for your acknowlegement that I've been posting on the IF board for over a year. Thank you for understanding that I am scared and that I won't believe this is real for a few months, if I'm fortunate even to make it that far. Thank you for understanding that I'm not going to get the answers I'm looking for on the PG board (no one responded to my x-post). IF "grads" do visit the IF board often -- look at the post about kids in the RE waiting room as an example.

Re: 1st RE visit after BFP - what to expect?
I had an IUI (no Clomid) and after my BFP at 10DPIUI I went in for blood work with the RE. After that initital blood work they had me back every 2 days for I think a week or so to check my beta levels. Then I would have blood work and sono every week until I was released to my OB at about 9 weeks. Congrats!!

Re: 1st RE visit after BFP - what to expect?
Yes I agree.. After you get that bfp and have been through IF and made friends on the IF board I could not post anywhere else in the beginning... I was so scared.. I had many m/c and neg cycles that I didnt believe it was true.. I still feel a part of that journey.. I have friends on there I will always be concerned about and pray for.. So much love has been given to me that I willl always visit and offer my advice and experiences ... I do hope I never offend or hurt anyone.. This is such a sensitive issue... Good luck to you.

Re: 1st RE visit after BFP - what to expect?
I canNOT believe this was moved....
I am hoping for a BFP for you but God knows, it took me a while to move to the pregnancy board when I got my BFP too. After going through IF treatments, no matter how big or how small, it takes a while to believe your test just might be right. I don't blame you for wanting to wait until the blood work. Good luck!!

Re: 1st RE visit after BFP - what to expect?
I'm sorry I didn't see this when you posted it- I would've answered then
Anyway- My first RE visit after my BFP on a home test was just a blood test to make sure I was pregnant. They had me come back one week later to make sure the numbers were where they were supposed to be. Then I went back at, I think, 6w2d for a sono- one week after the second beta.
I know many RE's do the betas a couple days apart- I think if it starts off lower- maybe they will do another one sooner?
Good luck- I hope everything works out for you!

ITA. I don't know why this was moved It's IF related she just did IUI
To the OP congrats. I started testing early too and the lines kept getting darker. Your RE should run a few betas on you. Good Luck!!!

Congratulations to you.. You should expect a blood test to confirm the pregnancy, and then take another test a few days later to see if your numbers are rising.

I have to agree with Gerty on this one. I think we've all become close on here through constant support and encouragement. I would hate to think once I get a BFP (someday I hope) that I would still be welcome to come back with innocent questions in the beginning.

Re: 1st RE visit after BFP - what to expect?
I'm shocked by some people's responses. It actually made me sad to see that someone wanted the poster to pose her question on the pg board when she's as much a part of the IF family as anyone else who has posted here.
I can't even put into words the fear that I had when I got my bfp and could only rely on the IF board for support, and I know that she feels that same way.
If I'm wrong and you want to shoot me, then so be it.
.....and edited to add:
Congratulations!!

I never said she was not a part of the IF family or that she shouldn't rely on the IF board for support, it was never even suggested. I don't know how that was even derived. All I said was that pregnancy related questions may be more appropriate on the pregnancy board. There are plenty of people who graduate to the Pregnancy board..including myself, JennyPenny..etc, who come back for support and we give it to them, I give it to them, with no reservations.
At the same time, I was trying to be sensitive to others that didn't post, but I received FM's regarding it, that they were upset but were afraid to post for fear of this exact thing that is now happening.
Please do not read into my original post.

You wanted her to refer to the pg board when in all actuality it's a question many have asked on this board when they got their bfp's after iui's and ivf's. With all due repect to the ladies on the pg board who most had no issues conceiving, somone who had to go thru IF treatments to get a bfp might not know what is the next step before being released to your OB. We've had to go for countless bw/sonos/tranfers/injections, so I don't blame her for not knowing what the next step was.
That's it. That's all I was saying.

That's exactly what I was going to say - and this is coming from someone who has been a strong advocate of being sensitive to others when posting about pregnancies.
Her question was about going to the RE after getting a BFP, and the steps involved there. With all due respect to the folks on the PG board, many if not most of them wouldn't know about that. I *think* - don't quote me on this - but if you have no trouble conceiving, a regular OB won't see you until at least 8 weeks or so.
When you get PG via an IUI or IVF, it's a different process, and you're monitored a lot more closely. With us - we went to the RE every week or so, until the 7 or 8 week mark.
So, I get people being sensitive and getting upset, believe me, I get it. But, I do think in this case, the question asked was a legit, IF-related question that someone who had little to no difficulty conceiving could answer.
