Nope, why does he have to be uncomfortable the whole night while I will be sleeping?

Do they always let the Dads stay?
If so I would love for him to stay and I'm pretty sure he'd want to stay too...

Many hospitals do not allow them to stay. As a BTDT mom I suggest you send him home to get some sleep. That way he is rested and able to help when you and the baby come home.

I'm not sure. I have a feeling he won't want to leave (I'd be lying if I said I didn't want him to stay). We have a dog, but if he wants to stay I know my sisters will watch him.

I am going to say that he will stay, no matter if I tell him to go home or not.

Re: 1st time mommies . . are you having DH stay at the hospital over night with you?
PS, my DH is going back and forth to WORK! I will get used to not having him there.
ETA: This is all new to me, I have nine nieces and nephews and never heard of anyone staying over with the mom.
It's nice, don't get me wrong - but I never even gave it a thought until LIF.

I agree. Plus he wouldn't anyway. He needs the UTMOST comfort at all times. I'm used to how he is. I just feel like I am an adult- I don't need someone sleeping in the room with me. He works nights- he is away 5 nights a week and I'm alone..at least in the hospital I'll have nurses etc- so I'll be less alone than normal!!

Re: 1st time mommies . . are you having DH stay at the hospital over night with you?
I can't see how it can be comfortable with them staying. The nurses wake you up every 2-3 hours to bring you a baby, and then take your vitals and check what's going on down there. DH will never get any rest. But that's just coming from a BTDT mom.
I'm sure it would be nice for DH to stay, but in all reality, you really just want to sleep, and selfishly hold DC when you get them. I know I didn't want to share.

Do the rooms not have sofas or someplace like that for them to sleep on? I guess I just always assumed that he would stay the whole time, I never really thought about it.

Re: 1st time mommies . . are you having DH stay at the hospital over night with you?
Before DS was born, we agreed that DH would sleep at home. He was even considering working while I was in the hospital to have time off when I got home.
He did end up staying home while I was in the hospital but, he had a hard time leaving DS I totally recommend it though - we had a rough first few nights at home and it was nice to have some rest - DH at home, and me in the hospital since I was formula feeding. DS spent the evenings in the nursery.

I don't think St. Charles allows the dads to stay overnight. But honestly, I would rather he go home and get a good night's sleep. No sense in both of us being out of it!

Absouletly not..where would he stay the chair? Once the baby comes home we will be losing enough sleep. And if my roomates DH is there I will be very uncomfortable..good thing Im delivering at Good Sam!

Re: 1st time mommies . . are you having DH stay at the hospital over night with you?
DH stayed with me the first night. Trust me, I wasn't sleeping. We kept Landon in our room and I couldn't get out of bed at all from the c-section, so he made a last minute decision to stay with me. The following day once grandparents visiting hours started DH went home and took a nap/shower. It wasn't bad at all. This time since we have a son I guess he will be home with our son.

I had a private room at Winthrop and there were no couchs or anything. Just a few chairs for people to sit in, one reclined I think. Hospital rooms are not usually designed for comfort, esp for non-patients.

Re: 1st time mommies . . are you having DH stay at the hospital over night with you?
I'm a BTDT Mom who delivered at Stony Brook. Dad's are allowed to stay & my DH did - from the moment I went in labor until the moment I checked out (4 days later cs). He WANTED to be there. DS stayed in our room the entire time - never went into the nursery. It was such a great experience for all of us. DS is EBF. The first night I couldn't get out of bed to feed him so DH was right there doing diaper changes & bringing him to me for a feeding. It made the transition at home so much easier because we knew what to expect.
We're actually wondering what we'll do when baby #2 comes because we'd like to do the same again.
ETA: SB has chairs that fold completely down into a bed. They encourage Dad's to stay - especially if you BF.

I just checked my hospital's website and they have virtual tours and it looks like each one has it's own couch. Plus, all of the rooms are private so there's no worries about roommates. So yes, DH will definitely be spending the night there!

No sleeping for new mommies!
Nurses were in and out of my room all night long checking blood pressure, taking blood, checking for roids....
DH did not stay with me except for the night I was induced. He went home and slept there for the other 2 nights. No need in both of us not getting any sleep.

Checking for roids? They need to do this more than once? Like a new one is gonna pop up a few hours later? Oh God help me!
