#2 Advice needed sorry TMI

Since I became pregnant #2(bowel movements) have become a battle, I go every 3 days approx and its so hard to get out. My dr reccomended COLACE. I am trying my hardest to take a more natrual way by eating a ton of fruit, fiber bars etc. Should i give up and just take the COLACE ?

Im on prenatal vitamins that have a stool softener in them and that seems to work (I always had issues in that depertment, even before getting pregnant).

Re: #2 Advice needed sorry TMI

i hate to say, but you might have to continue what you are doing AND take colace. I take 1 colace in the morning, eat 2 prunes after dinner (they are so gross, i pretty much just swallow them!) and then I take 2 colace at bedtime, and that seems to be working now. I have horrible constipation to begin with, and pregnancy makes it worse.

Colace is in my prenatal vitamin - does your have a softener in it?

I would definitely take the colace - i take metamucil in the morning and at night and it seems to be working for the time being, but yeah, this stinks!

The natural way just doesnt cut it for me. My GI says you cant OD on colace and its completely safe for the baby. I take 6 a day (on top of a double dose of miralax Chat Icon ) and I still cant go Chat Icon

Re: #2 Advice needed sorry TMI

Can you try a little prune juice (just a little) mixed in with something? It might help-it does for DS.

Re: #2 Advice needed sorry TMI

How far along are you?

I found it to be the hardest (no pun intended) in the first trimester, and now I am back on track.
Things that naturally helped me where

Drinking more water
leafy green veggies
dried apricots and plums (prunes)
apple juice
taking my prenatals at night
Fiber One bars (yummy!)

good luck, I hope you feel better soon!

I take one colace during the day, then two at night with my prenatal. all the veggies/fruit in teh world won't help me, that is my normal diet, I need the colace. I aslo started taking fibercon pills once a day, sometime every other day. things are so much better now. I had been pooing baseballs that's how bad it was for me LOL make sure to drink a glass of water w/ colace , it really does help.

Re: #2 Advice needed sorry TMI

The extra iron in your prenatal vitamins makes it a bit harder (pun intended).

I take a prenatal with stool softener in it, drink tons of water and eat lots of veggies. Still have occasional issues and when I do use Miralax per my OB's suggestion.

Have you tried drinking prune juice? It doesn't taste great, but I would drink a glass every night and by the morning I had to go.

i have to take an iron supplement so that makes it worse, but i still try to do it the natural way. fiber one products seem to work for me.

Re: #2 Advice needed sorry TMI

Try eating some bran flakes at night...it seemed to help my system get more "regular." It's so uncomfortable!

Have you tried warm water with lemon first thing in the am (before you've eaten anything)? It sounds so simple and primitive, but it seems really to get my digestive track going.

My OB recommended Milk of Magnesia. The Colace didn't cut it for me.

I think I used Benefiber when I was pregnant with DD and it worked really well. Nip that in the bud now or you'll get a visit from Mr Hemoroid.

Re: #2 Advice needed sorry TMI

u should drink lots of water, that really helps and also believe it or not, celery and pineapple work bc they stay chunky when ur body is processing them and they push through ur intestine so it helps get the poop out....
