24 hour urine sample? Huh?
I'm really clueless on this one, so please forgive me if this is a silly question.
But when you go for the 1 hr. glucose test, are you also required to then provide them with a 24 hour urine sample?
If so, do you collect it before or after the test?
Also, how the heck did you manage to collect your urine while you were at work?
I would imagine I'd have to get creative trying to capture my urine while at home, but at work? Not gonna happen.

Re: 24 hour urine sample? Huh?
I had to do it because I have swelling and the doctor wanted to make sure I wasn't spilling protein in my urine. It was NOT a part of the glucose test. It was weeks later that I had to do it.
I did it from Sunday morning until Monday morning and then dropped it off on Monday on my way to work.

Re: 24 hour urine sample? Huh?
Nope, wasn't told by my doctor.
It peaked my curiosity from another post on here, and also I saw another pregnant woman dropping off her sample the last time I was at the lab for bloodwork.
I'm 24 weeks, and I see my Dr. again at 26 weeks. She said she'll write me an Rx for the Glucose test next time I'm in. I guess I'll find out then if she wants that done. It sounds like it's a case-by-case basis though.
Thanks!!

Re: 24 hour urine sample? Huh?
they usually only do it if you have an issue with kidneys, bladder, swelling and the doctor will def. tell you if its necessary.

Re: 24 hour urine sample? Huh?
The 24 hour urine collection is only done if the doctor suspects you have or are moving towards pre-eclampsia. They do this to test the protein levels in your urine.
When you give a urine sample at your regular doctor's appointments, they should check for protein in your urine. If they find protein in your urine and you have other symptoms of pre-eclampsia such as high BP, severe swelling, large weight gain over a short period of time, etc, the doctor may ask you to do the 24 hour urine collection.

Re: 24 hour urine sample? Huh?
Oh no I'm sorry I confused you!
This was unrelated to the glucose test.
My doc had me do the glucose test on Thursday and then start a 24 hour urine capture from Sunday to Monday since my BP was up, my feet were swollen, and I had protein in my urine sample.
The 24 hour urine sample is NOT standard procedure for all pregnancies, just in case something like preeclampsia is suspected.
Sorry for the confusion!!

I did it in my 1st pregnancy because of Pre-eclampsia. Not everyone does this.

Oh no I'm sorry I confused you!
No worries!
I just remember seeing another woman drop off her urine the last time I was at the lab. It was a huge jug, and I was over the idea of me bringing that in to my work-bathroom.
But as usual - you ladies answered all of my questions!

Yeah, luckily I was able to do it on a weekend! I would never bring that thing to my work!
