Since there are so many of us going (or that just came from) Disney can we start a...

What should we pack/bring?? Any special tips thread???

So far Ive "mentally" packed (other than the usual diapers, wipes, bath stuff and clothes)

juice boxes
snacks for DS
snacks for DH and me
lenders bagels (a mom at school suggested to have this in my hotel room- on days we dont feel like spending $$$ on breakfast)

I was also told to buy the souvenir cup from the hotel- since it will give me unlimited refills on milk/juice/soda or whatever

I don't plan on bringing a bathing suit (or should I?) and since I have family in FL- I plan on having them keep their eye on the weather the week im going, so I know what to pack...

I already booked my character meals and made myself an "Agenda"

any other tips from those who just came back or for those who are getting ready to go??

TIA

We had garden grocer bring us our food, it's like Floridas version of Peapod. Much easier than lugging more than I needed to.

As for the Dis. Cups... their water is not the best tasting. That is what detered me from buying that. I know soda syrup masks that but I stuck with bottled things there.

No bathing suit?? When are you goingChat Icon

Go to EMH (extra Magic Hrs)!! See if they have a LOEMH (little ones extra magic h) worth it!!! Extra time in the parks!!

My biggest tip with a 2 year old is to make sure you allow for some down time. It does get exhausting for us and them.

The parks will let you bring things in, food wise. I brought some bottles of water (went grocery shopping) in every day so that we wouldn't have to spend a TON on drinks, it's so expensive in the park.

I got the soft packs of wipes and packed 3 packs of them, so I didn't have to bring a hard box, but the little travel wipes wasn't enough for the day since I was also using them as washcloths.

Bring a bathing suit. Bring 2. You never know! Chat Icon relaxing in the pool was a great way to unwind.

Bring the baby monitor if your hotel has more then one room, like a living room.

I would bring swimmies (if he wears those) just in case it's warm enough to swim.

Bring A&D to rub on your feet before you head out to prevent blisters. It sounds gross, but it works.

I always shipped the box of diapers, snacks, bottled water, etc. directly to the resort via UPS ahead of time so I didn't have to check it.

Bring stretchie gloves just in case it's cold. Lesson learned there when we went in February and it was 30 degrees and had to spend $8.00 on stretchie gloves that cost .99 here Chat Icon

Don't afraid to give the cast members your camera to take family pics. They willingly do it and that way you aren't spending tons of money on the photopass pictures.

Buy an autograph book! I made a scrapbook one year with pics of each character and DS and then put their autograph next to it.

If you want a fridge..join The DIS fridge swap. It beats paying $10 per night. If you are staying at a moderate or above, the fridge is free.

At counter service places, buy kids meals (if you aren't a huge eater). It comes with a drink and sides, and it's only like $3.99. The Land at Epcot has the best kids meals! Oh and while you are at The Land, there is a Nestle Tollhouse cookie baking experience that is free. It's really cute! The kids get chef hats, mix the ingredients for the cookies and then "bake" them. It's for 3 and up though.

Rent a mouseboat and cruise around the lake. It's fun!!

Send your child off on the Pirate Cruise (if your child is old enough). They cruise around the lake on a "pirate ship" (pontoon) and search for treasure. I think it's for ages 4-12.

Patience..lots of them! Especially when those bus lines are a mile long and all you want to do is get back to your room and go to bed!

New toys/books for the plane. Tori loved her Play-doh kit and it worked great where she played on the tray in front of her for 30 mins. We also brought a portable DVD for the plane and hotel room-- that came in handy.

I always suggest getting The Unofficial Guide To Disney World and having it with you in your bag. During downtime and while waiting on line I skim through it for strategies and tips. That book has been a godsend on every trip we've taken.

If you go on www.disboards.com and go onto the "budget" forum, there are several posts that say fridge swap and just click them all until you find a date that's open when you are going.

I shipped it all in a brown box, UPS ground (fed ex ground is cheaper though).

Address is like this:

Marissa xxxx
c/o All Stars Movies Resort
Address
Hold for Check In on xx/xx/08

Ground service is 3 days to FL I do believe, so I would ship it so it arrives a day before you do. They hold it in the luggage area for you. Then when you check in, tell them you had a package shipped to the resort. Ours was waiting in our room each time.

I also wanted to add, that the value resorts all have microwaves and toasters at the food court area. We brought cereal cups so DS could eat in the room while I was getting ready. I didn't always get a fridge. I would buy the small container of milk from the food court the night before and kept it in the ice bucket thing and it was very cold in the morning.

This thread is a great idea! We are going to Disney the beginning of Feb. with my parents and my brother and his children. Does anyone have any suggestions for some great character dining. The ages of the kids will be 6 months, 3 1/2 yrs old & 6 years old. We already have reservations at the Crystal Palace in the Magic Kingdom for two different days (one for lunch and one for dinner-we will cancel one when we get there and make more definitive plans)

Chef Mickey's is great. We are doing breakfast there, the Crystal palace for lunch one day, and the Norway Princess Dinner. I also heard the restaurant in the Grand Floridian has great Character meals.

Hollywood & Vine does a Little Einstein/JoJo's Circus breakfast that is adorable!! The kids ranged from infant to preteen and they all liked it. My 21 month old loved it Chat Icon

thanks for the info on character meals-I just forward my bro some ideas about Hollywood & Vine & Chef Mickey. He has two boys so they aren't into any of the Princess dining and Hailey is too little so I'm trying to do things they might enjoy.

50's Prime Time Cafe in MGM was really cute. It would be great if you have older kids. It is set in Ma's Kitchen and you have to eat your veggies or no dessert. The food was all homecooking and really good. My niece is 8 and lovesssssss it. Their peanut butter & jelly milkshake is out of this world!
Also the character dining at the Grand Floridan was really nice. We did the Cinderella Dinner one and had a great time. The dinner at the Castle with Cinderella was amazing too.

We are still in early stage of planning. Has anyone gone on a Disney Cruise? If so, how many days is enough for a almost 4 year old. We are thinking of a Park and Sea combo.

This is all great help!!!! We are going the end of Sept. The unofficial guide is fabulous!

Here are some sites that have some helpful tips:

Disboards

-This site is great for all trip info - it is a posting board that has advice on everything from parks, resorts, restaurants, budget, family, transportation and cruise info. People are very helpful and are more than willing to share their tips.

Allearsnet

-This site has a section on what rides and resorts are going to be closed/rehabbed during your stay.
-menus for every single counter service and table service restaurant in WDW - plus prices so you can budget for meals in advance or determine if you want to do the dining plan etc.
-Also many tips for traveling with kids

mousesavers

- this site has all the money saving tips you can get - codes for discounts on packages, car rentals, etc. If you want to save money this is the site that has the up to date info.

Depending on when you are going (although no matter when it is a good idea) you want to make your dining reservations 180 days out - busy times a lot of park restaurants are no walk ins. Which means you might be restricted to only counter service.

I just wanted to mention that if you don't want to pack all that food there is a grocery service that delivers to Disney. We haven't used it yet but I heard the prices weren't bad. We intend on using it next time.

You might want to call your hotel directly to find out about it.

Great idea! You might also want to pack umbrellas and rain ponchos. We didn't even think of it and the rain can really creep up fast. The ponchos were a ridiculously expensive there too!

we had ponchos that I got at Kmart for a couple bucks and they were worth every single penny!!! Although the crazy rain that we had came in sideways and went up the poncho, it still helped a little Chat Icon
