I urge all of you......
to get a will and discuss your arrangements!!!!!!!!!! I also urge you to encourage your parents to do so as well.
Even if you think you have nothing, get a will!!!!! FIL lived in an apartment and didn't really have any assets, but we are in a living hell right now. Talk to your parents and siblings. Do you know where they want to be buried? Cremated? WAY TOO MUCH TO THINK ABOUT!!!!!
Also, figure out your life insurance. Does it pay if you die ANY way? You'd be surprised to know that some policies only pay if you die in an accident.
Imagine what people will have to do if, God forbid, anything happens to you and your children become babies of the state. That court battle can get quite ugly. Make legal guardians of your children. AND DON'T TELL anybody if you don't want to. You don't want to hear your MIL b!tching for the rest of your life that you didn't make her the legal guardian of your children.

DS and I are talking to a financial strategist.
We are getting life insurance and disability insurance
We have a will in the works with info on who gets the kid and what $$ they get at what time
Morbid--but even worse if you dont have anything in place!!

I'm sorry you are going through this.  I hope it's over soon.
We are anxious to get this done but won't until we move in July, otherwise we would have to redo everything then (different state).

Everyone should have:
will
power of attorney
living will
healthcare proxy
For some, a trust is applicable, depending upon assets/guesstimated appreciation of assets as per federal estate tax laws.
ETA: None of our choices live on LI, all are OOS. Those were the BEST choices of people. Convenient, no, but they are named.
It's a lot more inconvenient not having them at all, I've lived through the situation w/ my father's massive stroke. Grieving and the stress of a health care crisis is enough to bare, the legal mess is a headache no one needs.

Thanks for the reminder. DH and I just keep putting this off. I have been more focused on getting my IL's to get this taken care of which is leaving me drained 
I can't let them drag me down and not do this myself

I COULD NOT AGREE MORE!!!!!!!! i made post about this the other day and will every year i am able to . I am still going through alot and if we had the papers in order before keith past i would have saved myself a whole lot. I could not say this enough!!!! PLEASE I BEG OF YOU!!!! if you need any info i have the papers booked mark and can link it. right now i do have to run... you can also look on FHF for my post that has a link !!!!!

I agree .......but..........the price for life insurance for my DH is ridiculous b/c of his diabetes and the age at which he is starting with a policy. It really pisses me off. He is healthy with great A1C tests (3 month averages).
I have my own very wacky opinions about disability insurance, from having worked in the field.
Naming someone to care for the baby has been the topic of much discussion. I'd love to make our intentions known but I want to live in peace, so we are doing it quietly.
