2nd round of variances approved

We got variances approved for the house being too close to the fence (we're following the existing lines, and the original house is set very far back for some reason), but when we went to file for a permit, they told us that the house is too tall. 28' is the limit, and we are 28.9' FROM THE CENTER OF THE STREET!!! The house itself is less than 25' above ground, but there is a 5' slope in the property, so they balked about that....

Luckily, it passed, so hopefully that's the last hurdle before we can start building....

1st variance was approved in October. We waited for the permit, and found out several weeks later that it got denied for the height "overage"... We had to refile a lot of stuff, get survey measurements to show the height from ground level, etc.

Town of Islip takes their time with everything..... It's so frustrating. I'm basically telling the town, "Hi, I have lots of money to dump into the economy, and I will also increase the value of my home, thereby increasing the taxes I give to you..... can I start?"...... and they just make it hard for me....

I actually got a call from the Permit office tonight, checking in on me about the variances..... I told him that they were approved on Tuesday, so he said he would check to see if he could find the approval on-line in their system, to help speed things along.

I'm taking this as a great sign if the guy from the Permit office is calling ME to see if he can get my permit to me sooner...
