2nd timers - did you bank your second (or more) child(ren)'s cord blood?
I want to but DH is looking to bring our expenses down in case I can't work f/t when #2 comes. We just paid off Viacord's collection fee for DD. We did bank her's obviously, but we are wondering since in many cases they can use a sibbling's cord blood if needed if the cost outweighs the need. I really didn't want to donate it... I'd rather keep it in case we need it in our family. We have strong family history of heart disease, diabetes and stroke. I'm positive for Factor IV Leiden (plus 2 other clotting mutations) and will eventually have all my kids tested for this and other clotting mutations. I've read in years to come they may be able to reverse the damage from strokes with the stem cells from cord blood and want myself and all my children to have that available GFB it should be necessary.... that's my main motivation to fork over the money. If we have a third child in a few years i'll definitely bank that child's blood, it's just this child comes so soon after DD and times are so unstable. We still have no crib or other furniture ordered and we have at most 9 weeks till I have the baby... it's just been so tight this go around and we aren't getting the same "gifts" we got the first time from family. So it's all on us to manage the expenses overall. Plus I've been out of work for a few weeks now due to an injury so I'm making nothing to prepare for my lack of pay when I'm out on maternity leave.
Thoughts?
