3.5 - 4 yo random questions - where are my '05 mammas?

I am curious about a few things....

1. Anyones kids still wearing diapers at night? T is - and I am wondering how to cut this out!! (I have been hesitant since her sleeping is so poor to begin with).

2. Where are your kids as far as writing...and are they doing any reading - sight words or anything?

3. any good products for controling curly/wavy hair? T will NOT let me brush her hair. It's awful. I use a lot of conditioner on her but I am trying to avoid rats nests...any tips?

1. No, Jared isn't in diapers but he has his occasional accident. I've cut out drinks after 7pm. That seems to do the trick.

2. Jared writes his letters, recognizes his name but doesn't recognize any sight words.

3. Can't help you with that one...Chat Icon

Brandon is 3.5

We stlill have a pull-up on him at night, but he wakes up dry so we should probably just stop Chat Icon - He calls us once or twice a night to bring him to the bathroom...

Brandon writes a good majority of the letters, but isn't writing "words" yet..
Recognizes his name though...

No help with the last one, his hair is pretty straight

Hmmm, well not so much applicable to us, but I'll give it a shot.

Alex weaned from the night diapers last summer. But I know of many kids in her class who are still in night diapers. Our pediatrician warned us that it's just not something you can train them on, that you just have to wait until they are physically ready. Does she wake up with dry diapers? If she does, consistently, for a few weeks, then it's probably time to make the leap to underwear at night. When we started the transition, Gadi would take her to the potty right before he went to bed, around 10:30pm, while she was still half-asleep. It helped cut back on accidents.

No reading or writing here. She's still trying to grasp that there's a difference between English writing and Hebrew writing Chat Icon I think she's a little confused from hebrew immersion. She recognizes most letters in the english alphabet, some in hebrew, and can write some of them, but that's about it.

Alex has straight hair, but I have hair that's similar to T's. What works miracles on my hair is Sebastian Potion 9.

Jacob does no wear diapers at night. I has been since December... I just saw the pull ups went dry and I also didn't want him to get used to having a pull up on night..

In regards to writing, that is emerging.. His OT is working on it with him.. We just figured out he is a lefty and he was having a hard time holding a pencil due to his low muscle tone.. This is all baby steps for him but having OT is doing wonders.. With reading...He sight reads, so I have sight reading books that I have been doing with him ( my mother had them from her classroom)..

can't help with the hair issue..

DD stopped diapers at night in December. She told us that was our Christmas gift Chat Icon She turned 4 in April.

She writes most of her letters, and recognizes a few sight words, like cat and bat etc but nothing too impressive yet. She writes her name well except for the N is funky. For whatever the reason her school is teaching her to write her name with a capital D and lower case everything else. I thought they did capitals for a long time.

DD's hair is curly but not as curly as T's but it's fine like mine and falls straight by the end of the day. I find the more I brush through it will a comb at night helps but since my hair was like T's I remember how AWFUL it was with all the tangles and knots. I feel for you. I don't have a magic answer.

DS is not yet 3.5 for a few months, but similar enough of a stage....

- We're just experimenting now with no pull ups at night. He has been 99% dry at night for a month or so. So far no accidents. Hope it continues!

- He can write many letters of the alphabet, and can definitely write the letters of his name. But that's one of the only words he can write, I can only think of maybe 2 or 3 other words I've had him write (very simple ones like "OUT"). He can sight read a lot of words. I have worked with him on that for a while, he really likes it.

- Straight haired boy here, no curly hair tips.

1. She usually wears a pull up to bed, but 9 times out of 10 she wakes up with it dry so we probably should stop letting her wear them.

2. She can write some letters. Mostly the letters of her name. She reconizes her name, Mommy, Daddy & a few small words.

3. I wish I knew! Most days i can control her hair just fine just by brushing it. The days that it's really bad I'll straighten it with my flat iron Chat Icon

Re: 3.5 - 4 yo random questions - where are my '05 mammas?

Hi Jen,

1. hasn't been in pull-ups at night since the beginning of last summer.....Try not to give her anything to drink a couple of hours before she goes to bed. I would also wake her a couple of times at night and take her to the bathroom....once the pull-up remains dry for a week or 2 then take it off. This is what we did with ava and it seemed to work quickly for us.

2. Ava can write her first and last name and a few other letters of the alphabet....She can also recognize her name and all upper and lowercase letters. She doesn't know any sight words yet nor have I worked on any. She does know most of the letter sounds though which makes me happy. Oh and she can recognize the signs for Home Depot and Dunkin Donuts.....2 of my favorite placesChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

3. Can't help with that one....ava's hair is pin straight....but don't they make those sprays that take the tangles out....like a spray in conditioner?

Re: 3.5 - 4 yo random questions - where are my '05 mammas?

1. They are both out of pull-ups at night - Hailey stopped wearing them about 6 months ago - and Zach -we stopped with them about 2 months now- although we probably could have cut them out earlier because they were always dry in the morning.

2. Zachary knows all of his letters and can write his name - he can recognize some "familiar" words. He can count extremely high and can recognize numbers by sight.
Hailey - well, she's a little behind in that area - she can write some of her name (we are working on this alot now) and can recongnize most of her letters.
She's not doing to well with the counting though.

3. Hailey has extremely long wavy/curly hair - but she does let me brush it - very gently - sometimes i will put a little conditioner in so it combs thru easier.

Re: 3.5 - 4 yo random questions - where are my '05 mammas?

1. Nate still wears a diaper at night. 6-9 months ago, he was barely sleeping through the night and was sleeping with us. Now, he sleeps in his room, falls asleep on his own through the entire night. I've tried cutting drinks by 7-7:30 but he will still wake up with a wet diaper. I've tried to ask him about wearing underwear and going to the bathroom at night, but he's not interested so for now I'm not pushing it. (I'm just enjoying the uninterrupted sleep way too much to mess with it now) Chat Icon

2. He can write most of the letters and "Nate." He recognizes Nathaniel, but forgets some of the letters when he tries to write it. He can "read" cat, hat, and bat.
