Spinoff of something on Pregnancy: Who bought your crib?
I am reading a post and I am kinda shocked that people seem to "expect" that someone will "step up" and buy their furniture
We bought our crib and his nursery furniture is hand me down from a friend of our family. My SMIL did buy our glider, but that was surprise at my shower...
I just didn't realize that people "expected" this.

It was originally on our registry but we find a set on SUPER SALE and we could not pass it. We got all the furniture ourself. We did not really expect anyone to buy it anyway.

I saw that too!
We bought our furniture. MIL surprised us and gave us money for the crib after the fact. But we bought the other stuff. My mom gave us a BRU giftcard that we got the glider with.
Didn't expect anythign though!! So we were happy.

My in laws bought our nursery furniture, and I never "expected" them too. They told us it was what they wanted to do, and that was fine.
I know a lot of people that bought theirs and thats usually the norm I guess. His parents are very generous and its what they wanted to do.

I am no longer surprised what ppl "expect".
Hey.. good for them *shrug*
I bought my own everything and have no issues with it. My hubby's step-aunt and uncle bought our glider but it was a total surprise and honestly..haha messed with my nursery set up but I love it!
I remember being a lil taken back in LIW of what was 'expected' now.. haha I expect it!

my grandmother bought DD's, it just so happened that I got a set that included the changing table & dresser for under $230 so everyone was happy

No one, we borrowed one.
I can see why one would put it on a registry - if you are looking to get the discount after the baby is born for all the unpurchased stuff. We also had a few people we thought *might* chip in together for our glider, but thought we would probably have to buy it ourselves.
I am not surprised any more either by what other people "expect" and I think it is going to be a tough battle raising my son with their children because I don't plan on keeping up with the Jones's at all....

Same! My inlaws bought our carriage and strollers. We didn't put any big items on registry because Dh and I are not a fan of this.

I never expected a thing from anyone. I was very surprised and grateful that my step father bought the crib for us. It was a very nice surprise.

I always knew that my mom was going to chip in for our furniture.
My inlaws and SIL also chipped in for it.
We paid for the remainder.
We didn't expect it from anyone.

As soon as I got pg my ILs said they would buy the furniture for Kaydyn's room. We were completely shocked. I figured my mom and 3 sisters would probably go in on the crib or the dresser, but I didn't "expect" anyone to buy me anything.

we didnt expect anyone to buy it, but my MIL is sooo generous and bought us the entire bedroom set. We consider ourselves very lucky.

My aunt bought his furniture set and Crib and mattress and Crib Bedding. She is my sons godmother and wanted it to be her gift to him/us.
My Mom bought the glider.

My mom bought it for us (it was only about $100 from Target). We didn't expect anyone to buy it. We were planning on buying one but my mom asked if she could buy it so we let her.

My mom bought my crib and the mattress. The mattress was given to my best friend when she had her 2nd daughter - and is staying with her since she is pregnant with her 3rd!
The crib was given to a friend of a friend who needed it.
I honestly didn't expect ANYTHING from anyone. I registered for 1 page of small items under pressure - my sisters swooped in and increased my registry to like 15 pages. When I saw the mountains of gifts (I got EVERYTHING) at my shower - I cried hysterically. i was overwhelmed with gratitude.
