39 weeks and no progress - w/ question for BTDT moms

I'm totally bummed. I'm not dilated AT ALL! My doctor said not to worry though because a lot of women who she's checked & were not dilated ended up going into labor within 24hrs anyhow. So it still might happen this week. But if not, we'll discuss the option of induction at our next appt next week (my due date). Grrrr!! I really don't want to be induced, but at the same time I just cannot imagine this going on much longer. My doctor's only suggestion was to have lots of sex (she said it's the only self-inducing technique that has potential to do something). So I guess I'll be getting busy this week lol

Any BTDT moms who were not dilated at all and still went into labor on their own?? I'm curious if there really IS any hope that will arrive on time. I REALLY hope so

that succks... I am right there with ya. And last week, my dr told me the same thing: have lots of sex. Not exactly what I wanted to hear.

I know how you feel. That's the same thing I got last Thursday. I was so upset, you have no idea. I'm hoping I either go very soon or have some progress this Thursday.

ugh, glad I'm not alone. Yes, sex is NOT what I would choose to do right about now but I guess I have no other choice.

I don't know which is worse, having no progress at all at the end or being 3cm like I am for 2 1/2 weeks now with now change AND losing my mucus plug 2 weeks ago!!!!

I know the feeling. When I was pregnant with DS i didn't dilate and then ended up getting induced. I know some women have all of a sudden gone into labor when they weren't dilated, but that wasn't me. I'm sending you TONS of labor vibes.

No progress at all at my 41 week appointment and I went into labor 24 hours later.

With my 1st pregnancy I went into labor on my own - water broke at 37 weeks and I wasn't dialted -only a fingertip when I got to the hospital. Long labor but all went well. You just never know. Meanwhile went early with 1st 2 pregnancies (37 weeks for both) and this one at 36 weeks was having regular contractions...for full day (5 mins apart). Have been 3cm, lost mucous plug by 37 weeks and dr said by looks of things - wasn't sure I'd make it the week and here I am 38.5 weeks - so you just never know what baby wants to do.

I was in the same exact situation as you. At my 38 week appt (it was on a Monday) I was not dilated...nothing whatsoever was happening, and I was pretty sure I would go to the 42 weeks. (my dr doesn't induce unless there is a problem until 42 weeks.)

So i just kind of mentally prepared myself to be preggo longer, and then 2 days before my 39 week appt, my water broke! I was shocked! Of course, I still wasn't dilated, and that's a whole other thing, but just because you are not progressing now, doesn't mean you won't just suddenly have a contraction, or your water will just break...and poof...you are in labor :)

Thanks for your stories & encouragement! That definitely made me feel a little better. Sometimes it just feels like I'll be pregnant FOREVER - like there's just no end in sight (even though I know that's not reality). I just hope she comes this week, even with my lack of progress at today's appointment. I guess you really don't know - anything can happen.

I know how you feel
I was neither dilated nor effects at my 40wk appt. I wound up giving birth 2 days later. We did have sex the night before & the day of, I had a pedicure with a nice foot/leg massage but I can't say either helped move things along. I think every 'trick' is an old wives tale and the baby will come when s/he's good & ready.

With DS #1 at my 40week appointment I was not dilated at all. They scheduled me for an induction at 41 weeks just in case. Two days later I went into labor on my own. Within 4 hours I was 3 cm. Within 12 hours I had DS. It happened just like it was supposed to. Don't get discouraged just yet...it really does happen that fast!!!

I had no progress at 39 or 40 weeks. Was 1 cm at 41, but ob gave me another 2 days. I went into labor the next day.

zero progress at 38 weeks, my water broke 4 days later, and started having contractions within a few hours of that. So yes you can go into labor without ever being dilated. unfortunately in my case, I never dilated at all and had to have a c section.

I never had any BH with DS.

But at around 36 weeks I was 1cm dilated. I was so proud of myself and then my doctor popped that bubble by telling me most women walk around 1cm dilated their whole pregnancy and don't know it.

I wouldn't say being 39 weeks without any progress would be an indication of not going into labor on your own. You just might be pregnant longer than you wanted

On the flipside, I was 3 cm dilated ad 100% effaced for a month and no labor so I had to be induced. I don't think the dilation really has anything to do with anything. However, I do know that if you aren't dilated at all and get induced, you have a much higher chance of having a c-section. (not 100% chance, but a higher chance)

At my 39 week, 3 day appointment, I was only 1cm dialated, which I have been for about 2 weeks already, and the doctor made it seem like I was making no progress, and you can't really predict labor at that point...two days later, I went into labor on my own!

Me! I was barely dilated at my 39 week appointment. He said BARELY a fingertip.
Less than a week later I went into labor on my own and DD was born 1 day early!
