39 weeks tomorrow; anxious for appt (update)
My section is scheduled for Saturday and I am losing hope fast for a vbac. I have been doing everything humanly possible to get this going. :( There are times when my braxtons are like 20 minutes apart, I feel sick and have to go to the bathroom, and then nothing. I've been having a lot of low, low pressure for days. I just went for a one-hour walk with my daughter.... I plan to have more action with the hubby (tmi) and have a friend who does acupuncture, which I may try if I get bad news tomorrow. I don't even think I've lost the plug :( My doctor will not induce me (which I don't want anyway) because of the previous c section....but I'm feeling so anxious
Update: So upset. I am more effaced than last week, but still no dilation. Baby also hasn't fully dropped. It could just be my pelvis...section is Saturday and I can't help but feel very deflated. I know the bigger picture and I understand, but from desperately wanting to experience birth to not wanting to have major abdominal surgery...I'm just so down. Doctor said it could change, but I mean, I'm mentally getting ready for Saturday now, whereas before I was just pretending it wasn't a reality.

Re: 39 weeks tomorrow; anxious for appt
Do you have the exercise ball? I heard sitting on that can help lower the baby all the way down and it's head will engage the cervix more causing it to dilate. Spicy foods, castor oil, sex, squats and going up and down the stairs. I don't have any personal experience with these but this is what I have heard sometimes helps get things moving. Will your dr. strip the membranes?
I remember hearing about hands and knees position doing something as well, I have no idea what but it's worth a try right?!?! When you're are on your hands and knees do pelvic tilts and it helps get the baby in the most favorable position to press on the cervix.
Adding***
It sounds like you are close, the low pressure, bathroom trips and braxton hicks are all good signs! Don't lose hope yet, you still have this whole week! Try to stay relaxed and keep walking!

Walking didn't really help me. A big meal and half glass of wine seemed to give DD the final push although it may have just been time. Good luck!

Thank you! I don't have the ball but I'm a yoga teacher, and I'm still doing a ton of it...lots of cat/cow which is a hands/knees position

Can she do a membrane sweep if cervix is still closed though?

I think you need to be like 3 cm dilated but ask the doctor. I am not certain I ever lost my plug with DS so it is totally possible to go into labor without losing it (or realizing it lol) GOOD LUCK!

yeah, asked today. she can't do a sweep if cervix is closed. she was amazing and very supportive, but there's no magic answer here...I will still keep walking and all the other stuff, but....oh well

its smart to prepare yourself for saturday but dont give up hope
with both of my kids i had nothing going on and went into labor on my own 24 hours after seeing the dr and scheduling a inductions bc nothing was going on. (i was .5cm dilated with dd, and 2cm dilated with DS), and they were both high. it can change in an instant good luck sending you baby-come-out vibes

ITA! With DD I had nothing going on. I was a fingertip dilated, no braxton hicks, baby was high. They didn't even do internals at most of my appointments bc I was so high they figured it was pointless. After my last appointment and the night before I was supposed to go for an induction it just came out of nowhere. You never know! There's still hope!

I still came home and walked with dd for 40 minutes, and I have my yoga mat out now and have been practicing. the high point of my visit was that I've only gained 24 pounds...less than with my first. thanks for all the kind words, ladies. I appreciate it a lot.

I agree with the pp's! You really never know! The day I went into labor with dc#1 I was convinced that I would be late and had given up any hope and then my water broke. Same with dc#2, I was not expecting it at all! You still have a few days but it's good to be prepared for Saturday just in case. Maybe you will be surprised and things will take off quickly!

Try squats/exercise ball and drink rasberry leaf tea which helps get your uterus to contract. If that doesn't work try the natural old fashion way sex with ejaculation(tmi I know but it works).

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but if your doc is willing to do a VBAC, why can't you wait to go into labor on your own, even if its a few days late? Is there a medical reason?

Well I will tell you...she was very candid with me and said that if I were even a touch dilated, she would encourage me to give it more time. But since im not doing much of anything, she worries about the scar and would prefer Saturday. So, I ultimately need to try everything before Saturday and just put my ego aside and safety first. If I can do that, I will feel good knowing I went to the end and tried. Walked, did tons of yoga, made a labor-inducing salad and have acupuncture at 4! Tmi activities later (blush!) And repeat the rest of the week!

I was not dilated at all before I went into labor with my vbac baby. Hang in there. I was on the phone with my mom, miserable, thinking I'd be pregnant forever... and my water broke a few hours later. I don't understand what does dilation has to do with the strength of your scar?

She meant that if things were going (dilating, etc) she would be OK giving me a few days because that would show her things were moving along. Without much progress, she feels extra time wouldn't change much. Plus she mentioned worrying about the scar weakening...which honestly frightens me.
