3D/4D sono's.... who is doing them? Who has done them?
Are they worth it?? I think (thought) I could live without seeing what our looks like. But after my level 2 where she kept most of her face covered the entire time I've been sooo curious.
My Dr. just informed me that I am probably not getting any more sonograms done unless they suspect the baby is too small/large. I am only 24 weeks is that normal?
Now that I heard I may possibly not see again until I give birth I am REALLY REALLY considering having it done..... going 16 weeks without seeing her again seems so long.
DH is against it and rather be surprised by what she looks like since we already know the sex. Opinions?

I'm not going to be getting one, but mainly because they kinda creep me out I think some are really cute, so I can see the appeal, but it's just not for me...

Where is it $150? At NYU where I got my anatomy scan done they said it was $300 for a 3d/4d and you get a dvd with the pics.

We just signed up to do this when we're up in NY at the end of May!! I think the 4D DVD of moving around is going to be a great keepsake.

Re: 3D/4D sono's.... who is doing them? Who has done them?
I'm not doing it because I don't want to spend the money. My doc said I won't get another sono until possibly 32 weeks.

Re: 3D/4D sono's.... who is doing them? Who has done them?
We didn't do one and honestly it probably would be a waste for us because DD *never* cooperates with any of my sonos. My last pic I got of her was at my Level II and that was it. Nothing after that.

Re: 3D/4D sono's.... who is doing them? Who has done them?
Doing ours tomorrow there.
My initial feeling was that they are unnecessary and I had no real interest in doing it. Then a month or so ago DH saw an add in one of my pregnancy mags and asked if we were doing it (he may have even been totally joking) and I said no and let it go.
Then we wanted to bring my mom (who is up this weekend for Mother's Day) on the hospital tour but they would only let two people do it, so that was out.
And out of the blue I thought maybe this would be fun for her (I wanted to do something "baby" while she was here) and after checking the cost, decide to do it (I thought it was going to be a lot more $$).

I'm not doing one...and after talking to the sono tech at Ocean yesterday - would never do it. She was telling me the reasons why the FDA is trying to ban it and it's very frightening.

This is why I'm not doing it. I had an appointment with Impact in east meadow to do it but then cancelled because of the fear of possibly harming my baby. I'm sad I won't have that keep sake but its not like I'll never get to see my little peanut. Oh well.

Re: 3D/4D sono's.... who is doing them? Who has done them?
I don't mind sharing....Information is a wonderful thing. She said the people who work there are not trained technicians, they just teach them the machines. The machines aren't calibrated so there's no heat wave control, which is how the 3D machines work. And she said that at the Perinatologists, they only keep the heat on for a few moments whereas at the "shops" the heat is on the whole time. And there are studies showing that the heat waves can damage the baby's brain cuz they concentrate so much on the face....

Re: 3D/4D sono's.... who is doing them? Who has done them?
FDA is trying to scan ALL sonograms that aren't necessary.. not just 3D/4D. 3D's are perfectly normal and safe. this coming from both someone that's in school for radiology and also a sono tech i've spoken with (AND my SIL is a PA and says its perfectly safe)
We got ours done but only because my SIL works in radiology office and I was able to get it done for free. I definitely wouldn't spend the money on it. I was very lucky because I feel like my pics are A LOT clearer than some other women's. I don't think I'd take that chance and spend the money not knowing if he would cooperate or if they'd come out good. if you really could care less if you see what your baby looks like inside the womb, then don't do it.

.
The FDA is trying to ban elective sonograms BECAUSE the techs aren't trained...all sonograms are perfectly safe if performed by a licensed technician, when you go for those independent sonograms the person doing the sonogram is NOT licensed and the machines are not calibrated each day as they should be..... This all coming from the sono tech I spoke with yesterday...

I have an appointment at Impact on the 22nd, but now I am a little nervous to keep it. I definitely want to see my little man and get the DVD, it's going to be a Father's Day gift for my DH.

Re: 3D/4D sono's.... who is doing them? Who has done them?
I'm scheduled to go on Tuesday....DH and I are very excited about it...this is from the facility's website:
"View A Miracle is owned and operated by sonographers who are registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS). They are highly proficient in the art of 3D ultrasound and 4d ultrasound technology. Together they have 30 years of experience in medical diagnostic OB scanning including 3D ultrasound and 4d ultrasound. Their years of experience include training and teaching residents, fellows, and ultrasound students. They have both managed and supervised departments while working with the most respected obstetricians, perinatologists, and radiologists in the area. Both sonographers have also received specialty certification from the Fetal Medicine Foundation in London. In addition to View A Miracle, both work for renowned and well respected obstetricians, gynecologists and fertility specialists."

Re: 3D/4D sono's.... who is doing them? Who has done them?
I get enough scans from being high risk. I don't want to subject my lo to any more then necessary. SO I won't get one with this one and I didn't with ds either.

Re: 3D/4D sono's.... who is doing them? Who has done them?
i would like to say that I had a 3d sono done & it was not 3d/4d the ENTIRE TIME. The tech would do a normal sonogram and switch to 3d/4d when she felt she had a good shot....(which, because our angel girly was sleepy & face down was NOT often).
the ENTIRE time we were there, the 'heat' and etc. was not on...so i am not worried at all.

I pretty much had the same experience as Jess. And I believe we didn't go to the same place.
I went to Impact and had a great experience. Honestly, my sono at impact was about 15-20 minutes. I think the regular anatomy scan and growth sono's i get at the dr's office are longer than that, but i got such better pics at Impact.
If your that concerned I would ask your dr about the risks, but i told mine where I was going because it was cheaper than what they offered in the office and she had nothing bad to say about it.
