3rd Trimester Sono
Ladies,
I went to my OB last night for my 28 week visit. I asked her when I get to find out the size of the baby. She told me they wont do another sono until 36 weeks. Is this normal procedure? I was basically told that i can get a sono earlier if I "Need" one. So I guess I can say I'm having cramping or pain, which I really don't want to say.
I'm just nervous about the size b/c my husband is 6' 8" and about 270lbs (football player). He told me he was in the double digits as a baby.
After reading all the posts in here, it seems most of you get sono's more frequently. Is this true?
TIA

Re: 3rd Trimester Sono
My OB only does the 36 week sono if he thinks that there is a size issue. Otherwise, my 20 week sono will be my last one.
I think its normal

Re: 3rd Trimester Sono
Thank You! Everyone seems to know their baby's size on here. I was looking forward to being to find that out in the next few weeks.

Re: 3rd Trimester Sono
My doctor did a sono for me at 29 weeks because I was measuring large.
With my last pregnancy I had GD so I had sonos at 35,36,37,38,and 39 weeks.
This pregnancy I don't have it so I'm not sure if I will have another one.

Re: 3rd Trimester Sono
I think if they consider you high risk you get sonos frequently. I've only had 3 sonos with my doctor (I'm 29 weeks) and recently went for the 3D sono on our own just for the pics. I won't get another one through the doctor until I'm 36 weeks.

Re: 3rd Trimester Sono
I am 30 weeks and my doctors hasn't mention anything about another sono. I don't think that is abnormal. Some doctors don't do a growth sono, some like yours only do one. They usually don't do it unless there is a problem. I wouldn't worry too much, I am married to a giant as well he was over 10lbs and rolled over in the hospital. We will be fine.

Re: 3rd Trimester Sono
I was concerned about the same thing. My dr. doesnt do any extra sonos after 20 weeks unless there is an issue. If you are measuring big/small or leaking fluid or something then you'll get that additional one.
IMO 36 weeks would be a good time to get one anyway...even if the baby is measuring big and they wanted to induce your or do a C-section...they wouldn't do it before that point anyway.

Re: 3rd Trimester Sono
I feel a lot better about this now. I honestly don't want additional sono's if I don't need them. As much as I want to see my baby again, I get nervous that too many is not always safe. Unless of course u have an issue and need them done. If I am measuring well with the tape, which my doctor said he is right where he should be, than I am fine with that.
Thanks again girls
