4 week old and food

How much did or does your 4 week baby eat? I am currently feeding them (twins) 3 oz and it seems like they keep looking for food and more often. I am not sure how much they should be eating since I dont want to over feed them, if you can even do that....

Thank you for your help

I always offered her a little bit more and just threw away what she didn't finish. I know it seems wasteful but I wanted to make sure she was getting enough. At around a month old I'd say she was up to 4 oz, and when I increased it I'd only increase by an ounce at a time.

This is what I do too. My mom said an ounce at a time and so far its worked. Try giving them a bit more and if they takes it continue.

Same here, I'm BFing but when I give a bottle he is taking around 4oz now...he is 4 weeks 2 days old.

DS is a bit of a piggy...he is 7 weeks old and can easily polish off a 8 oz bottle no problem...at 4 weeks he was on at least 6 oz bottles. I know that when I took him for his 1 month check up she asked me if he was still on 6oz bottles and I said "that and then some"..

With all my kids I have always made bottles with an extra ounce or so...so if the baby is eating consistantly 4 oz the bottle was 4.5 to 5 oz. That way if they wanted a little bit more they could have it. If they spit it up then they are eating to much.

Re: 4 week old and food

At 4 weeks-about 4 oz at a pop.

I talked to my pediatrician because it seemed like she was eating all the time (she would take 2 oz snacks in between feedings). The doctor told us that you can't overfeed a baby-they eat what they need and don't over eat (unlike adults, who eat what they want). The doctor also said it's better to offer too much than not enough because the worst that can happen when they over eat is spit up whereas if you try to limit what they eat too early, it could result in their failure to thrive.
