My current position is just a JOB. I could make it a career elsewhere. However, I do not plan on it. I am going to school to hopefully find my "career"

I consider it a career. It's not what I went to school for but I LOVE it! I will be here til I retire. The woman I replaced started when she was my age and retired 26 years later! She retired a little ealier then I probably will though

It's a job. I have similar feelings about it, Michi. the difference is that I am ok with my job being just a job- but thats becuase I like it. If i wasn't happy, I'm sure I'd be singing a different tune.
That came out kind of weird, i hope it makes sense.
What you said is perfect. I believe as long as you have JOB SATISFACTION, then it doesnt matter whether it is what you went to school for or if it is a "career job" Being unhappy where you work can make the rest of your life miserable.

Career-Went to school, started at entry level corporate position, moved up the chain. Through many mergers and acquisitions, been with the firm 9 years and many promotions, increasing responsibility, career pathing etc. My firm is huge through, so I haven't tapped out yet.

right now, its a "career"- its what i went to school for... i'm a speech therapist at a school. BUT, there are definitely times when i feel like i want more of just a " job"- i LOVE being home in the summers. spending time taking care of the house, cleaning, cooking, doing errands for me or DH.... i'm DEFINITELY not one of those "career minded" women.
my ideal would be a part time "job" somewhere, that was less demanding so i could get out of the house some days, but still have time to do the house/'wifey" stuff that i like to do... maybe someday when i win the lottery!

Mine is a career. And, I treat it as such. I am an executive assistant to a very senior partner in a PR Firm. If I left this job, I would definately look for another senior level position. I like what I do and I'm good at it.
