On a serious note... as you know... "One day at a Time". That's all you can do.
And now for the cheap laughs as per your request...
Many girls dream of being on the cover of Vogue... well, la di dah... Vogue, Shmogue... you'll be on the cover of "American Brain" or whatever the journal is called I can see it now, Naomi, Giselle, they can't get this gig...
They have to put you on the cover... this definitely warrants a cover shot... Darn, no more Richard Avendon... ok, I guess this will be Barb's big break to shoot the photos
Now let's talk designers... I'm thinking Vera Wang could do a couture gown in the lovely bluish greay scrubs material... and just for traditional sake, of course, the back would have to be left wide open... "Moon River..." everybody sing
Oh, and makeup... all I can think of is Bobby Brown but we might want to go full on glam 
I'll work on all of this and get back to you I saw "The Devil Wears Prada" twice so I'm an expert now
Now I know you are married to Stud-Muffin but are any of these doctors "eye-candy" in their own right? or do most of them look like the Nutty-Professor? You are going to be spending a lot of time with them. I hope at least one is "easy on the eyes"

Deb, I only have to give. I really don't know what else to say, other than you are one amazing person.
And, you asked for stories, so I would like to include one:
My grandma had cervical cancer 20 years ago. I don't know what stage she was in when they found it and I am too young to remember, but from what I hear it was very bad. They "gave" her a few months to survive and said there was no way she would make it past that timeframe. She went to radiation and they were able to get rid of it. She is a healthy 76 year young woman. She has all her own teeth and hair and does not have one illness to speak of.
I hope this story helps

Footprints
One night a man had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the LORD. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand; one belonged to him, and the other to the LORD.
When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of his life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in his life.
This really bothered him and he questioned the LORD about it. "LORD, you said that once I decided to follow you, you'd walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why when I needed you most you would leave me.
The LORD replied, "My precious, precious child, I love you and I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you."
