I agree.
I agree with both statements. To boycott an entire country because they haven't found this girl's body/killer(s) is a big ridiculous. There are thousands of crimes that go unsolved in the US alone every year. This is one, very unfortunate but ONE, instance.
I also don't see the effect they're trying to achieve by boycotting... Is it to be punishment for not having handled the case 'correctly' or is it to push them to handle it more 'correctly' in the future?

Oh, of course. I can see where she's coming from but I don't see how boycotting is the answer to the mistakes their juducial system has made.

that is what I believe too. I think her mother is threatening them. My heart breaks for this lady, so as much as I know that we would have to boycott the world if we did this everytime. For this time, I will boycott, I admire her for constantly pushing. If I were her, I would want people's support as well.
I doubt that Aruba will be a popular spot for HS Seniors this year.

I guess I'm just a cynic at heart. I agree with you, you're probably right about generating publicity but this was one of the most publicized kidnapping/murder cases in a long while. If a witness hasn't come forward by now with credible information, I don't see how this will help that.
I think it's an act of desperation by this woman who I feel terribly for. And if I felt that a boycott of some sort would either bring her daughter back or bring her murderer(s) to justice, I'd be all over it. But I think it's just a terribly sad circumstance that nothing will change at this point

I think to boycott visiting Aruba is really going to hurt the people that work in the tourist industry more then the government, at least initially. The hotel, restaurant, maintenace staff will most likely be the first ones to be penalized.

I actually heard something about this. They said that this had happened there before and didn't get as much publicity plus the girls that had disappeared are not Americans. Let me see if I can find where I read this. They actually tried to imply that she might still be alive.

i think this is exactly the case. and she's obviously managed to succeed on some level. (bringing attention back to her daughters disappearance/murder).... whether it will change anything with regards to witnesses coming forward, is an entirely different story. there is DEFINITELY someone out there that knows SOMETHING, and if they haven't come forward by now, unfortunately, i don't think they ever will. but i hope i'm wrong. its very sad.

I would NEVER boycott in a million years,either would anyone I know or anyone in my family.Most ppl that say they'd boycott are ppl that have never been there.
It is very unfortunate what happened or may have happened to Natalee Holloway but ask yourself,would you get in a car with 3 guys in the middle of Harlem? I think not! Just because she was on vacation,doesn't mean she should of thrown her common sense out the window.
Who are you really boycotting when you boycott Aruba? Sure,less tourists mean less business but not only are the local workers not to blame for this incident,neither are the thousands of Americans that own timesharing.
My family has 4 weeks a year of timesharing on Aruba and we love it..we have going there and returning SAFELY for the past 14 years. Our timeshares (which were not cheap) are also a real estate investment,there are times we cannot go so we rent them out. If ppl boycott,who will rent them from us? With my experience,90% of the thousands of timeshares are owned by Americans..so in a sense you are asking Americans to boycott THEMSELVES and for what?
Listen,I'm a mother too and I sympathize & understand that this women is desperate for answers. But after really following this case,I can't help but feel that she knows soooo much more than she is saying to us on the "ratings lovin' " talkshows. I have been there twice since Natalee disappeared in May,most recently in September for 2 weeks. I have spoken to the locals and friends down there,These ppl are truely saddened by it all. They have taken time off from work to search for her,there are posters everywhere. They are at a loss for where she could be. When was the last time any of us took time off to look for a missing kid here in the US? Remember back in the day when they would post pics on milk cartons...did you ever buy a carton and then started to look for that kid? No. Either have I.
Aruba is a small island and community.. People are friendly and warm. Everyone knows everyone. Here in the US,most of us don't even know our neighbor. Even "if" the local gov't botched the investigation..a boycott would hurt the local hardworking ppl of Aruba and middle-class hardworking ppl here(mostly owners from eastcoast) who own a little piece of paradise.
I'm sorry this post is so long but the subject ways heavy on my heart.

I would also go to Aruba.
Our own goverment has made mistakes that effects its owns citizens...yet I still live here.
If there was such a things as a perfect goverment...we would all be trying to move to such a place...but since one doesn't exsist I am going to enjoy what ever vacation spot I choose.

I would advise you go to Harlem and check it out. Great people live there.
I would not get in a car with anyone...do we really know for sure she was not drugged? or dragged in the car?

I meant that just because your on vacation,you should not forget your good sense. This girl WILLINGLY got into a car with 3 young men. Is that not disturbing in itself? I just said Harlem because I tried to think of a place hear close to us that has a stigma of "dangerous".. you can insert any yahoo town. Same point.

I think you're comparing apples and oranges- the boys who were questioned were very clean-cut looking, probably knew how to chat up teenaged tourists and she probably thought they were harmless.
When I was 18, I would not have gotten in a car with 3 guys in Harlem. If I was 18 and in an island paradise, who knows? And when you bring alcohol into the situation? I wish I could say I would have known better but I just don't think so. When you're 18, you think you are invincible.

BTW,I wasn't talking about ppl in Harlem..I was thinking more along the lines of..what would be a scarey-uneasy place for me to walk through in the middle of the night.

that's the last I heard....
so this is based on the media. from what I slao heard she was a "good" kid. had awesome grades and the typical all american girl.
This is no excuse for what happened to her. If I met some guys that seemed cool and were hanging out just like me then I would not seem so apprehensive. Based on the enviornment, she maybe thought hey, these are cool guys.

sorry guys if I was a little unclear.
I didn't mean anything illed. I too said that as a mother I feel horrible for ANY parent to go through this..be it here or any country.
But I'm sickened that nobody puts any blame,not even partially on Natalee herself. Bad decisions= bad consequences.
