Were you alone in the car? I don't know how true it is, but I heard if you have a witness who can vouch that you were not speeding that it might help.
There's a chance that the cop won't show up that day. It happened to a co-worker of mine.

That bites!! I've gotten out of two speeding tickets locally, just by showing up in court to fight it. Both times the dropped it and if anything it was a very small fine. They say Nassau County is really tough. I'm sorry!

nope. Danielle was with me. and SHE KNOWS i wasn't doing 80 MPH!!!!!!!! she was just as  as I was, and still am!!

Really??? that's promising news!! I'd MUCH rather pay a small fine, then have points on my license!! ESPECIALLY since i was NOT doing 80!!!

this is very interesting:
Overpay the actual violation amount. The state will issue you a refund check for the difference. Do not cash the check, keep it. Because you have not cashed the ticket, the court case/docket cannot be closed properly thus no information gets reported to your insurance company or department of motor vehicles.

christina- definately go and fight it. they will probably knock it down before you go in front of the judge- they usually will drop it down to a tailgaiting or something like that... especially if you have had a clean record before. either way you will pay a fine...

oh, I'm DEFINITELY going to appear in court to fight it!! as long as i don't get points on my license, i'll be happy!!
do you know if they'd accept statements made by minors!!??  Danielle was with me.

Also check the ticket and make sure htere is not ONE mistake on it (color of your car, year, make model, plate # ect)

I would definetely fight it christina If i was a cop i would take care of it for you. i would go a appeal to them and tell them you dont deserve the ticket!

Really? I've gone to court a few times in Suffolk and was never given an attorney. I did get off once when the cop failed to show up twice. The other time they didn't lower it at all.

yeah i got a ticket and the cop wrote that i was MALE!!! i went to court to argue that clearly his judgement was off b/c i am obviously not a man, but the judge laughed at me and i still had to pay the fine! GRRR!!
