Have you ever talked your way out of a ticket?
I was pulled over once on the Taconic going upstate and the trooper asked me if I knew how fast I was going. I acted dumb, said no officer, I had no idea. Commented on how couragous he must be being a police officer. And i was free to go with no ticket.
Anyone have stories?

Re: Have you ever talked your way out of a ticket?
My dad is a retired cop... so I get out of a LOT of tickets.
I think I have talked my way out of 5-6 tickets, including a ticket I almost got last month when I got pulled over (cop only wrote me up for no insurance card).
So far... only got one speeding ticket out of all those times getting pulled over. Not a bad percentage.
My wife hasn't been as lucky as I have been. She hates cops, so she gets more tickets.

Re: Have you ever talked your way out of a ticket?
My co-worker and I were in a rented car and gabbing away. We were driving it through the Mid-Town tunnel just talking and talking and she went to the EZ-Pass lane (since she has EZ pass in her regular car) and goes through it and we didn't have the EZ Pass in our rental! The buzzer went off and the officer came over to us. Both of us were talking a mile a minute... we're so sorry, we're NY'ers, this is a rented car with Ohio plates, we go through the tunnel all the time, We don't have EZ pass.... We went on and on and we made the officer laugh. He was like "OK Ok... I got you. Go ahead, just go"
And we got away with it!

Re: Have you ever talked your way out of a ticket?
me me me!!!
hahahha
I was driving up to Cortland to visit Rich - I was by myself for the first time (I usually took Amtrak).
Riiiight before the NJ/PA border, I was pulled over by a Jersey state trooper. He clocked me going 90, downhill. (P.S. - I sped up to pass some looney truck driver that couldn't stay in his lane....I was also flipping him off at the time )
First of all, I doubt it was 90mph. My car is 10 yrs old and starts to shake at 80.
I remember his name, too- Officer Dutkus!
After he went through his whole speech "You are being pulled over by the NJ State Police for exceeding the speed limit in excess of 25MPH. Please note that this is a 65MPH, and fines are doubled....blah blah blah".....I played up my high school acting skills...made my hands shake as I handed him my license, turned on the tears, etc.
He actually said, "Aw, honey, don't ruin your pretty little makeup! Take it slower from now on, and stay in the right lane. Lets pretend this didn't happen. You go on and have yourself a nice time wherever you're in such a hurry to get."
hahahahah Sad...I know...but it works!!!
Rich is convinced that it was my boobs....I was wearing a TURTLENECK SWEATER!

Re: Have you ever talked your way out of a ticket?
yes, but it wasn't on purpose...
many years ago when I was still in college, one day on my way into the city, I was probably doing 60 on southern state, a trooper pulled me over, since I've already had 2 tickets for doing 110+.. I started to panic and cried... I told the trooper how sorry I was and I had no idea I was doing 60... He gave me a warning and let me go...
I think he felt bad for me.. so I got outta that ticket, which probably would result in my license being suspended!

Re: Have you ever talked your way out of a ticket?
I'll give you all the best piece of advice. When the cop asks you for your licence and registration.... PLEAD your case to the cop BEFORE he walks back to the car to look you up.
When he gets back to the car is when he starts writing the ticket. Once he starts writing a ticket... he can't rip it up if you plead your case after he returns.
It also helps to carry an expired insurance card. Hand that to the cop instead of the real card. Or simply don't hand the cop any insurance card. Tell him you left it at home. If he wants to write you up for something... he can just write you up for no insurance card, instead of the moving voilation. Give the cop a method of writing you up for "something" instead of just letting you go.
You can get that no insurance ticket wiped out by mailing the DMV a copy of your current insurance card. Doesn't cost you a dime.

Re: Have you ever talked your way out of a ticket?
Yes. I usually play the "stupid girl" card.
I had a G35 as a loaner car while my truck was being serviced.
It was SO COOL how if you floor it, it gets up to like 90 in 20 seconds.
After doing that twice, I got pulled over.
I just kept saying "OMG, I had NO IDEA that it goes SO FAST....When I drive my truck, I have to push the gas all the way down just to get it to move"
I also had 3 PBA cards. The cop threw them past my face and they landed on the passenger seat. Then he said "Just leave. Goodbye"

Re: Have you ever talked your way out of a ticket?
A buddy of mine who had tints on his car would even TELL the cops he had illegal tints and asked the cop to write him up for that lesser charge instead of the speeding ticket.
Of course... if the cop don't like you he will write you up for both. But thats the chance you take I suppose.

Re: Have you ever talked your way out of a ticket?
Too many times to remember really... first time was when I turned 17. The day I got my license I was pulled over for running a red light at 3am. The officer felt bad because if he wrote me up I'd lose my license, so he let me go...
In college, I ran ANOTHER red light right in front of an officer. I didn't have my license on me, so he escorted me back to my college dorm, which was about 20 minutes away. Walked with me to my room as I retrieved my license, looked at my license and then let me go with a "warning"
The most embarrassing was the day I ran a red light (see a theme here? ) and as I was stopped at the subsequent light, I hear a knock on my window. I look to my side and lo and behold, there's a bike officer knocking on my window. He caught up with me... but once again, NO TICKET!

Re: Have you ever talked your way out of a ticket?
I got out of a ticket in November going upstate to Massena...my sister and cousin were in the car with me. We were trying to get there as soon as possible because my grandmother was dying. The State Trooper that pulled me over said I was doing 80 in a 65...(he should have his radar gun checked because I had my cruise controll set at 87) anyway I handed him my husbands SBA card and my little badge that says SGRT's wife and explained why we were in a rush. He said that he heard that same sort from a man and woman earlier that day who were heading to Massena. I asked if they were in a Silver Mercedes...he said yes. I explained that was my parents. He said that he felt bad because he accoused my father of buying his SBA card off the internet...he didn't really believe that his Son In Law was on the Job. He told me to tell my father to fight the ticket. My father did send in that he planned on fighting the ticket...and he received a notice back that there is no copy of the original ticket...so not only did I get out of my own ticket...I also sort of got my father out of paying for his.

Re: Have you ever talked your way out of a ticket?
Heck yeah! I got pulled over once in my friend's town for speeding and the cop let me go. He actually pulled over a friend of mine later that week just to ask her if I was single. Everytime he would see me driving, whether I was doing anything wrong or not, he would pull me over "just to say hi." I learned that I could get away with just about anything in Mamaroneck.

Re: Have you ever talked your way out of a ticket?
More times than I can count. Now, I have DH's PBA card to get me out of it but I have told some pretty stupid stories.
I got pulled over for talking on my phone. When the Cop walked up to my door, I handed him the phone and said "It's for you". Luckily, he was humored by it and let me go.
For speeding, I've used "I'm trying to get to the gas station before I run out of gas." Yes, I lowered myself by making him think I was really, REALLY stupid, but it worked

60 good gosh! They were strict then. I get passed left and right on the Southern State doing 65-70. I hate driving on that road, with so many insane drivers.

OMG, I do this all the time with the "I had no idea this car went so fast. I'm not used to the power" trick so many times. And here I am thinking I was so creative and brilliant! I wonder how many times the cops have heard that excuse now!

Re: Have you ever talked your way out of a ticket?
I've talked my way out of too many to count (I've only gotten one speeding ticket, woman state trooper). I won't mention some of the stupider things I've done while driving. The minor one was:
When I was in college I was pulled over for making a left turn where there was a no left turn sign that I didnt' see. I was asked for my license & registration. I had to explain that it was my roomate's car so I had no idea where the registration was and for ID I showed him my engraved school ring.
Probably the better story was when I talked DH out of getting a ticket. He is notorious for to a cop which is a guarantee for a ticket. We were pulled over while he was driving. I told him to not say a word. I started out with saying "I am so sorry officer. This is completely my fault. I was being a total ***** because he drives slow and we're late for my friend's house." I turned to DH and apologized, "I'm sorry maybe he could just write the ticket to me?" The cop laughed & said "You owe me buddy" and walked away.

WOW Im impressed! before I was married to one, I never had the guts!
My husband has told me stories about women hiking up their skirts or unbuttoning their tops and telling him how they never saw such a handsome officer- personally that disgusts me! but guess what- they always get off!
