4th grade ideas please!

Hi..I am teaching 4th grade for the first time this year and am trying to think of some themes/topics for my reading comprehension instruction...any ideas? are fairy tales big in 4th grade or is that 3rd? also, any specific nonfiction topics that would support the nys curriculum...Any advice would be appreciated...thanks!

1st grade teacher here - Off the top of my head, I would say consider fables - they always seem to show up on tests. Also, there's a draft "scope & sequence' for elementary CC ELA topics on the engage NY site - maybe that will give you some other ideas.

Aesop fables are great for 4th grade

There are great Native American folktales that would support the NYS curriculum

I love:
Rough Faced Girl
Paul Goble
The Woman Who Fell from the Sky
How the Stars Fell into the Sky
The First Strawberries
The Bone Man

(granted - some of these stories are not Eastern Woodland)

Headlines from History has great nonfiction books on the revolution time.

The David A Adler Picture books have quite a few colonial/revolutionary figures too

Thanks..I already have a ton of stuff from Revolutionary times/Native Americans because I used to prep my fifth graders for the SS state exam..but I will look into those folktales.
