500 bucks for a balcony—am I being a brat?

We're about to book a cruise as a surprise for my FIL's 70th Birthday. I currently have my husband and I in a room with a balcony, but it costs an additional 500 bucks. I think it's well worth it, but I'm gearing up for the possibility my husband will want to go the cheaper route since we are also paying for my FIL's cabin. And after all, how much are we really in the room? Be my voice of reason, since I always seem to say yes to an upgrade! (I will say that the last cruise we went on we had a balcony and enjoyed it immensely!)
Thanks!

Thanks. We can afford it, I'm just debating whether I am being high-maintenance or wasteful and if 500 bucks is too much to pay for a balcony.

Everyone I have spoken to says it's a must. ESPECIALLY after you have already had one, you can't go back to not having one.

We are going on a cruise in April and it was a lot more then $500 to upgrade to the balcony suite but we thought it was well worth it Chat Icon

I would definitely upgrade for the balcony but probably couldn't do it unless I upgraded FIL's too.

It's worth it. Once you go balcony you never go back.

You may not be in your cabin that much but when you are, at least you'll be comfortable. It's nice to get up go stand on your balcony and look out. Or even wake up early to watch the sun rise.

I was in an inside cabin and thank god the cruise was 3 days. I felt clausterphobic and what was worse their was no clocks so I had no idea if it was day or night. I also got a little sea sick the first night.

We are going on a cruise in September and I went right to Balcony.

I was thinking this, can you get yourself a balcony but no theM?

I never spring for the balcony but always have to have a window.

I don't think it is a waste of $500. Since we cruised on our HM with a balcony, I will not travel any other way! It doesn't matter if you aren't in the room that much, just having your own place to enjoy some alone time without having to fight for a chair in the sun....it's priceless!!!!

We had it twice and enjoyed it. If you think you will use it, then go for it.

I would definitely get it. I have been on two cruises and had a balcony both times. I went into a room w/o one and felt claustrophobic.

Re: 500 bucks for a balcony—am I being a brat?

I'm odd man out but I did a balcony for my honeymoon - enjoyed it IMMENSELY and will do it again.

However, we did another cruise in August and had an inside room.

To be completely honest, it didn't matter to us.

If you want to save the 500 bucks and put it towards something else, I would do it --- also, if you get yourself the balcony, are you also getting your FIL one?

I would do it, just for the air. I could not imagine taking a cruise and not having a balcony. I would die with no air/ window or door. I cant take small spaces so that would be a must.

Re: 500 bucks for a balcony—am I being a brat?

If you can afford it, I'd do the balcony. I assume that means you're upgrading your ILs, too.

But I can tell you, I did go on a cruise with a balcony for my HM (jr. suite) and when I recently went on a cruise we had an larger room but only a window. It wasn't that bad w/o the balcony. We were on the balcony twice on our honeymoon. Once at night and when we were going through the locks of the Panama Canal.

Re: 500 bucks for a balcony—am I being a brat?

I have cruised both with a balcony and with an inside cabin and had an good time either way. I justify spending the money if I wont be spending that much at the ports but if I think I want to do excursions and shopping then I will not spend the extra.

I agree with the others, if you can afford it, go for it!

We regret not upgrading when we went our Alaskan Cruise last year.

Re: 500 bucks for a balcony—am I being a brat?

We stayed in a room with a balcony and it was the best idea even if it is more $$$$. It is open to the outside and makes the room feel much larger. I have a little claustrophobia and knew staying in a middle room with no windows or balcony I would go crazy.

A balcony is nice, but having a window is fine too if you don't plan on being in your room very much
