6 months old- feeding at daycare
Daycare mommies - if your baby is 6 months + what are you sending them in with?
We had a ped visit this week and she said we are giving DS too much formula each day. We need to reduce the amount of formula and introduce more foods.
Right now I am giving him a 5 oz bottle of formula in the AM, then cereal and fruit afterwards.
At daycare they were giving him 3 8 oz bottles - but today I gave them 3 6 oz bottles and a jar of veggies.
Then in the evening I give him a jar of veggies, half a jar of fruits and then an hour later a 5 oz bedtime bottle.
Please share with me what you do? Thanks

Re: 6 months old- feeding at daycare
How long is there for?
Mine is there from 8:15 to 3:30.
At around 6 months he was getting (lets see if I remember)
(nursed at 5:30 and 7:30) Then at 9:30 they gave him: Cereal (4-5 tbs) Fruit (homemade but about one jar-ish)
At 12:00 he had: 5 oz bottle of BM little less than 2 oz of veggies and pastina or cereal (maybe he didn't start the pastina/cereal until later-mabye 7 months.. I can't remember..at that point he might have just been on veggies for lunch).
At 2:30 he had 4 oz bottle of BM.
Then I came home and he was nursed again at 4pm.

Re: 6 months old- feeding at daycare
Ok, I can break down his food schedule - maybe it will help: 7 oz bottles @ 8:30, 12:30, 4:30 amd 8:30 Cereal and 1 jar of fruit at 10:30 1/2 jar veg and 1/2 jar fruit at 2:30, yogurt if he needs it in PM, 1/2 fruit, 1/2 veg, 1/2 meat at 6:30...
DS will be 7 mons 2/27... babysitter uses here judgement on the PM yogurt...

Re: 6 months old- feeding at daycare
I am no Ped. but IMO 34 ozs a day (5+8+8+8+5) does not sound like too much at that age.
I believe the recommended intake for 6 months is 24-32 ozs but your ped. may have a different recommended amount.
So although 34 ozs is on the high end, you seem to be in the range by dropping the three Daycare bottles to 6 ozs. each.
In terms of adding more food, I would give the whole jar of fruit with the veggie for dinner and also give fruit with the veggie for lunch. Did your Ped. give the go ahead for introducing meats? If so, that would increase his solid intake as well.

Yes she said we can try meats now too. So I still have to go and buy some, but I figured I'd do that in the evening too.

Keep in mind, once you increase the solid intake your DS may reduce his formula intake himself.
At that age, I also introduced a snack (puffs or yogurt).

Re: 6 months old- feeding at daycare
The Ped told me no puffs or yogurt yet - we have to wait a few months.
I forgot to mention he is at daycare a full day - 830 - 5pm.
I feel so clueless!

Re: 6 months old- feeding at daycare
Mason is there all day.
Gets his first 8oz bottle at 7:15AM 9:30 jar of fruits 11:30 AM 8 oz bottle 1:30 PM I send yo baby yogurt, fruits or veggies 3:30 PM 8 oz bottle (lately he's only been taking 4 oz of this one)
I pick him up at 4:30 - 5. I give him veggies or mixed meat and veggies at 6 PM then last bottle at 7 - 7:30 PM
BTW... I usually just bring in a ton of jars of fruits and veggies. Also, some yogurt and put it in his bin in the fridge.

Re: 6 months old- feeding at daycare
Ann is there from 6:45AM until about 5PM.
I send her with (5) 5oz bottles (and one usually comes back home whiich I will give her before bed). I make her food so I send two cubes of fruit that they feed in the AM with cereal and two cubes of veggie/meat that they feed in the early afternoon. She also gets two cubes of veggie/meat for dinner (along with puffs or cherrios or some banana, etc).
She's still a little pipsqueak though and has never taken more than a 6oz bottle at a time so she's probably not the best comparison. I did find that contrary to what I thought would happen, she did not start wanting/taking less ounces since the introduction of solids.

Re: 6 months old- feeding at daycare
So do you guys think I should do a full bottle first thing in the AM? And then have the teachers give him his cereal and fruit at daycare? I usually just give him the bottle then the cereal fruit right after....

Re: 6 months old- feeding at daycare
DS was drinking about 32 oz at 6 months. Since then he is down to about 24- 26 and eating 3 meals a day. At 6 months he would eat cereal and fruit in the morning, cereal and fruit for lunch and veggie for dinner.
We started meats at 7 months and yogurt at that time as well.

I think so! What time is the morning bottle? And what time does he get to day care?
We do bottle first thing when he gets up and fruit & cereal about an hour and a half later.
