6 wk old feeding & skin questions
DS has been eating 4ozs every 2.5-3 hours since we brought him home from the hospital. However for the last few days, about 30 mins to an hour after he finishes his bottle, he wants more and is eating an additional 1.5-2ozs. I emailed my doctor but they are out of the office today. Do you think we should we up his feedings to 6 ozs at a time or is that too much for him? If so, should we add a little bit of cereal or something to satisfy him? He is currently drinking Similac Sensitive. He really doesn't spit up; maybe a tablespoon once a day, usually proceeding a large burp.
Second, he has what appears to be little pimples on his face and chest. They don't seem to be bothering him and they aren't spreading. I just want to be sure its not a rash or anything. It definitely appears to just be cosmetic. Should I be worried?

Sounds totally normal! Most babies go through a growth spurt around 6 weeks, which explains the addtl oz. Also, he might have flare ups of baby acne which is also very common/normal. My DD had this pretty regularly through the first 3 months. PED said it can come and go through the first year or so.

I would up the ounces in his bottle.
The rash sounds like baby acne.

Sounds completely normal. The same thing happened here...the eating more & the flare-up of baby acne between 6 & 8 weeks.

ds is also on similac sensitive. He was taking between 5-6 ounces starting around 5 weeks..he is only 7 weeks now. Up it, and if he spits up more than ususal, or doesn't want it...you can cut back.
The rash sounds like baby prickly heat..is your house warm, or does he have warm clothes or blankie?

this is what the pimples/rash looks like
our apt isnt overly warm, 69-70 degrees. and he doesnt wear anything overly warm. Image Attachment(s):

i dont think that is acne..prickly heat probably. you can only put water on it if it is, then pat it dry. ds got it on his face 1st time i took him to the ped, and dr said i had too much clothes on him, or house was too hot...went away later that afternoon. how long has he had it?

ive been using J&J head to toe. yeah the ped said its good to get them into a schedule. i use the wash only every other day though. on the off days i just put him in the bath and rinse him with the water. he actually enjoys the bath. lol

Pedi called us back...
we can up DS's feedings to 6oz as long as he continues to not spit it up or we can put 2 tsps of cereal in one bottle if we want.
the pimples are acne according to him and he also said keep putting lotion on it (which DS hates!)

i wouldn't wash a 6 week old every day - especially in the winter - it's probably a little to harsh on his very sensitive skin...
go every other day, if not every 3 days...and think of switching from J&J...i know there was a post here recently (maybe 2 days ago??) - about how it is rather drying..
