This Isn't The First Time I Am Posting This, But I Need Your Help Ladies---Feeding Questions AGAIN For My 9 MOS Old
Hi Ladies,
I feel dumb, but I feel stuck. I cannot get out of this rut! I cannot seem to get my baby girl started on "REAL" food. I guess part of me is scared as hell of her choking. I know this is the time, since I am home this summer (teacher) and she goes back to day care in Sept.
We even had her DR appt yesterday and our DR looked upset that I wasn't giving her PROTEIN yet. I've tried those stage 3 chicken veggie mixes and she gags it up! I tried puffs, she won't even put one in her mouth. She has 24oz of formula daily, 3-4tbs of rice cereal, and a fruit in the AM, afternoon, and a veggie in the PM.
She's also 24.3 lbs, 29" at 9 MOS so she is really chunky!
I have this Cuisinart Multi-Purpose contraption..it says blend or grind. Is this good to puree food??? Do I use blend or grind to puree?
Any suggestions, why I am so uptight about this?
I need meal planning help FAST!
Thanks bunches Keri

When I started my son on meats, - I never did the baby jarred of meats b/c I couldn't stand the smell of it. I took a tablespoon or two of whatever we were eating (chicken, turkey, or chop meat) and put it in the magic bullet with a little broth. Then (because I am lazy and never made homemade fruits/veggies) I took whatever jar of baby veggies or fruits and put that in the mixture, pureed it more and then gave it to him. When I started tablefoods, I started with the puffs. He did gag a few times, but as long as they gag and cough, that is good. If they don't make any sounds, that is not good!!!! Gagging and coughing are a natural reflex. After he ate puffs consistently, I started him on pastina with butter and parm cheese. Then eventually I went to regular american cheese slices, and now he eventually eats everything pretty much. I just make sure it is very very small (half the size of my pinky nail). HTH!
I also took a CPR course before I gave him foods, so that made me feel a little more secure. As for the puffs, do you try to put it in her mouth. "They" say you should try something atleast ten times before you say your child doesn't like something. DS is ok with jarred pureed bananas but cannot stand regular bananas, we have tried this 4 or so times and every couple weeks I try again! BTW, why don't you try pieces of bananas or carrots to chew.

Have you tried pastina? I boil it in chicken broth and let it sit to absorb. I freeze the leftover in ice cube trays for later.
I also made my own chicken and turkey. I blended the meats in a food processor with gravy, and froze in ice cube trays.
ETA: Scrambled egg??
Also, my son threw up the first few time we introduced certain foods. I was so upset, and thought we were going to have a horrible eater, but at 11 months, hes eating a number of table foods, and trying new things all the time.

You are doing fine! My DS is the same age and the same weight. He gags on stage 3 dinners so I am still giving the stage 2's to him. He does eat puffs and graduate crunchies now. The Dr gave the ok for pastina but I think he might gag on the consistancy as well. All in time. They are growing just fine

Hi
My son is 9 months old. More or less he eats the following:
A Stage 2 fruit and cereal for breakfast
A stage 2 veggie for lunch
A stage two meat veggie dinner -- there are lots of great options out there for stage 2 -- mac and cheese, hearty vegetable stew, turkey and golden potatoes etc.
If he still looks hungry I also give him some fruit at dinner.
He also has puffs and cheerios for snacks and I let him taste a little of what we eat as well. A few pieces of pasta cut up small; a few pieces of cheese cut up very small, a little mashed potato, a little bit of the filling from spinach pie etc.
He still gets most of his nutrition from formula --- 5 bottles a day about 30 ounces total

DS gagged on stage 3 at 9 months--I don't think he could really eat that until he was a year. I got upset around this time too--it seemed like all the other kids I knew his age were eating table food, and here he was still on baby food.
Did your ped. give you suggestions for foods to try and introduce? Sounds like he or she should have helped you out a bit with this. Can you try egg yolks yet? DS could eat those around 9 months, I mixed them with a bit of water or formula to make them more like regular eggs. Yogurt should also be okay if your doctor gave the go-ahead with that--we were at 9 months.
You can also try making humus--just throw chick peas in a food processor and if yogurt is allowed, you can mix it with that instead of tahini sauce.
Or as others said, make your own meat purees. I started making a lot of DSs veggies around that age also, so they weren't as runny as the jar food, I made them a bit chunkier so he would get used to the texture.
I think most babies who have gagging problems at this age have some texture aversion, and they are not necessarily about to choke, so don't worry about that so much.
Don't worry, she'll eat table food. It just might take some time. I stopped giving DS table food completely at one point and a few weeks later, I think he started eating soft bread and some other things.

my DS is going to be 10 months and eats mainly stage 2 some stage 3 foods. Mainly fruit. I try to get him to eat table food but he only likes breads! he gags even if I mash bananas. my doc wants him to eat more solids bc in 2 months he will be drinking milk, not formula and there is no iron in milk. I feel like we are way behind in table foods too! I tried pastina and mixed it w/ some fruit he did not want any part of it

Brody is 9 months- almost 10. He doesn't eat the meats either- they gross me out. You don't have to give the meats.
Brody is a gagger/choker/vomiter... He is still on stage 2. He barely can handle the puffs and has no ideas what to do with the wagon wheels.
He is also 25lbs.
