Re: 60 year old woman....
I don't know, I just don't think that's fair to the kids.
Mom is 60 at birth - 77 at high school graduation, 80+ when the kids are in college, married, having kids, etc.
I had a friend with old parents when I was in school...she was always left behind. Her parents were retired and wanted to travel and do retiree things....they became "guarantors" as opposed to parents. That's sad.

Re: 60 year old woman....
Wow!!!
I can't imagine having a newborn (let alone two) at 60, but I guess grandparents do it everyday by raising their grandchildren, so why can't someone do it voluntarily for their own child?

I don't get it just because modern medicine makes it possible doesn't mean it should be done. Where will we draw the line?

I agree, the Drs in the US wouldn't perform the invitro so she went to South Africa.

That should be a big WARNING sign!!!
I think it's very selfish of her not to think about those poor kids.

So did she not go through menopause yet? I don't get how physically her body was able to do it.

Re: 60 year old woman....
I feel bad for those kids.
I also had a friend who had older parents, and they were such an inactive part of her life it was depressing.
Not saying this woman is going to be like that. But how is she going to be able to provide for them when they are 13 and she is 73.
It's one thing to take on your grandchildren when their parents aren't responsible enough for whatever reason. But to knowingly have a twins...not even 1 kid but 2 when you are that age is a very immature and naive decision IMHO
I hope this woman has a good trust fund set up for them because I'm sure she won't be around to help support them through college.

Re: 60 year old woman....
Children are blessings so Ill say that right off the top. My mother had me at 38 which in 1970 was NOT common. Women today are stronger, healthier and more knowledgeable than they were years ago and science has come a long way to make it possible for women to have children later in life. It may be very likely that I will have my first child at 38, but I am many more times healthier now than my mother was almost 37 years ago.
HOWEVER - (a BIG however)
Where I am hopeful that this woman can give her children a warm and loving upbringing while she remains strong and healthy, IMO, she is shortchanging them. With age, life brings upon situations, that young children should not have to deal with. My father went from an active business man to an Alzheimer's patient in the span of 7 years. Mom has had her share of health issues as well. It happens and it happens a lot. There is a huge difference between becoming parents in the late 30s and 40s and then 50s and 60s.
As a full grown responsible adult, it is very hard to watch parents of senior citizen age deteriorate from a once vital and incredible life. But this is my situation and I deal with it - often not well, but I have no choice. Thisi s what you do for family with no questions.
I cannot even IMAGINE being a young child or a young adult starting out having the responsibilities of elder care. It is exhausting both physically, mentally and emotionally and frankly unfair to a young person.

Re: 60 year old woman....
While this choice wouldn't be for me, I think if it makes them happy and if the children are brought up in a loving family situation where the parents love each other and they are looked after well...hey, more power to them! These days 70 is the new 50 (I heard that on the news) and people are living longer and staying "younger" longer, so perhaps in their minds, they are only youngsters!
Again, not for me, but live and let live I say!!!

Re: 60 year old woman....
I think it was a selfish decision on her part. I also heard this morning that she has two other children who are 29 and 33 and they are very unhappy about it because they feel they will have to raise the babies.
