8 months old and DS will NOT let me change his diaper!!

As soon as I get him on the changing table or floor and lay him down, he flips himself over!

I feel like there is no way to keep him still and hold him down.

We've already had a couple of smeared poop incidents.

Does this happen to anyone else, and if so, how do you keep them still enough to change their diaper????

I am having the same problem with DD. She is almost 8 months old and never stays put. I try to give her a toy to hold and sometimes it works.

TOYS! dd does the same thing...keep many toys or anything near by to get there attention she is still doing this at almost 11 months old

I've tried the toys and he will just flip holding the toy!!!

UGGGGH, oh, and I forgot once he gets himself over, he trys to CRAWL OFF THE CHANGING TABLE!

I do everything under the sun. I will sing, talk to her, give her toys, whatever she wants.

It's exhausting.

Todd Jr is 8 months and does this too, I just give him a toy and it usually helps for a few seconds, I have to be quick--lol

Oh it is so hard for us. I end up putting him on the bed and giving him the clean diaper or the box of wipes to hold and play with while I do a super quick change. That usually does the trick - keep him occupied with something he doesnt see/play with usually.

Same problem here too. DD is almost 9 months and it takes 2 people to change her! I try to keep her distracted with a toy, but that doesn't always work.

Well, DS is 20 months old and still is a b!tch to change. But now I just change him standing up.

For a long time, I'd put a book down on the changing table and literally change him upside down, he'd read his book and I'd change him. I'd say that worked from about 8 months til about 18 months.

Yes, at night when DS is tired it's a wrestling match and a 2 man job. Toys don't seem to help. I have to tell him a wildly amusing story while DH handles below the belt.

from 4-11 months old I would have to give Brooke a bottle to change her! Toys didn't work.

She was off bottles at 11 months old so then I would sit in the ground and use my legs to pin her down She is so strong that she would break free in 30 seconds or less so poopy dipes were tough! She out grew it and now at almost 15 months she will lay still for me to change her (she still only gives me about 30 seconds to do it though.

I change most pee dipes while she stands up, I started doing that at 7 or 8 months old.

Don't give up! It took a lot of trial & error until I found the right toys...DS will not sit still! He rolls over, crawls away and now even stands up. Imagine me changing his diaper in the middle of the night in the dark while he is standing up banging on the animals on his border paper. It's really a ridiculous scene in there sometimes.

When I lay him down on the changing pad, pretty much the only thing that will keep him on his back long enough for me to change him is if I give him his little hairbrush to play with (he is fascinated!) and I also have to tease him and play with him to keep him into it until I am done. Something will work for you eventually, you just have to break a sweat every time until you find it. Good luck!!

Nightmare! My DH and I try to get each other to do the nighttime diaper b/c we are so tired and don't want to engage in the wrestling match. DS is 11 months, but he has been doing this for about the last 2 months! Very difficult! Sometimes certain toys work othertimes, he just takes the toy and rolls over while holding it. I feel your pain!

DS is 12 months and from the time he was 8 or 9 months diaper changes have been a wrestling match.

I usually give him a bottle or soemthing he likes but I dont usually let him play with liek the telephone to keep him occupied.....

Wait until they start walking, once DS started walking I actually had to start using force to hold him in place!

DD is the same way. She flips, she stands, she rolls over and refuses to roll back.

Every single time I put her on that changing table she gives me a fight.

If I'm not trying to keep her from jumping off head first, I'm trying to keep her hands out of the A&D, off the clean diapers, butt paste out of her mouth. It never ends.

I have a set of small animal hand puppets at DD's changing table. I got them from Oriental Trading. She loves to play with them during diaper changes and knew that animal names and sounds by 12 months. What I really like is that they can go in the washing machine and dryer.

I put up a (non breakable) mirror on the wall right next to the changing table and she likes to look at herself or me in the mirror.

I try to make diaper and clothing changes fun. I make funny sound effects for what I'm doing, sing songs, tickle her...

A tip I got from my SIL was to attach pictures of babies (from magazines) or photos of family members to the wipes container for DD to look at. That worked until she figured out how to open the box and pull out
all of the wipes one by one.

DS is 9 months old he has been like this for a few months now..It takes forever to change his diaper I just keep something close by to entertain him for a few seconds or another poster told me to stick my tongue out at him that helps or I make some freaky noises sometimes a wipe even helps
