Healthcare workers
Has anyone seen a significant shortage since the vaccine mandate or is it just hype?
I saw a lot of posts on one page from people who said they were quitting and they were looking for jobs that don’t have vaccine mandates. I saw some women using that as an opportunity to have them join their Arbonne teams. I can’t really believe so many people just up and left their jobs but maybe I’m wrong?

Since it was only yesterday the mandate took effect, it will probably be a while before we see any major issues. Personally I think it was a big slap in the face to every single health worker who worked tirelessly through the Pandemic to be given this ultimatum.

Since it was only yesterday the mandate took effect, it will probably be a while before we see any major issues. Personally I think it was a big slap in the face to every single health worker who worked tirelessly through the Pandemic to be given this ultimatum.

I’m wondering how it shakes out. I saw over 96% of practicing physicians reported to be fully vaccinated as of June and like 88% of nurses. It sounds like most ARE vaccinated from what I’ve been reading.

You'd have to feel really strongly about something to give up your livelihood and your paycheck and have to start a whole new career.

Honestly, I think its an awful position to be in to make that decision. It really isn't fair....sorry to those that disagree.
I have a friend who works in the Healthcare industry and she was 10000% against it. But she is single and lives on her own and couldn't afford being fired so she had to get it. Of course, she got the shot and was sick as a dog.
I do give Kudos to those that are standing up for themselves and can actually afford to do so.
Many can't.

I already know that answer.......
Oh I know. Disturbing. I feel like if my company were to pull something like this I'd want to consult with a lawyer to see if I had any rights should I get a bad side effect.

I work for a large hospital system and know dozens upon dozens of healthcare workers all across the state. I don’t know anyone who up and left.
ETA  at Arbonne. That’s amazing.

I agree. I think the vast majority are vaccinated. It was a terrible position to put them in though.

I agree. I think the vast majority are vaccinated. It was a terrible position to put them in though.
I still don’t see what the problem is if the majority are already vaccinated (by free will, not because they were pushed to do it), it’s not like they were refusing to wear masks or test. It def comes across as a control issue.

I work with many different hospital providers in my line of work. I really feel for these people. It's not right.
We will not feel the effects of this for a little while. If the seasoned staff does get terminated and the governor brings in the national guard and retired staff (many who abandoned ship during the pandemic), we are going to see a decrease in the level of patient care. It's very concerning and a true disgrace. Our society is going to sh!t.

my husband is in management at a large hospital system in NY. Most people are vaccinated. He said he hasn't heard of any nurses or doctors who won't get vaccinated, it's more other staff- which is still sad and will affect them in the long run, but right now, it's not too much.
This isn't to say if I feel the mandate is right or wrong. I'm not in the position, so I can't really say how I'd feel.
He did tell me about one man on his team who didn't want to get vaccinated, and my husband asked him why- and he said "because no one can tell me what to do" and my husband asked "so, you're not against the vaccine, just being told what to do?" and he said yes and my husband said "is it really worth giving up your years in service, pension, etc and not be able to get another hospital job because you don't want someone telling you what to do?" He did end up getting vaccinated.

Peconic Bay Medical Center will have to terminate about 2% of its total workforce today under a Northwell Health COVID-19 vaccine policy that required all employees to present proof of vaccination by 11:59 p.m. Monday to avoid termination, according to PBMC Executive Director Amy Loeb.
Loeb said this morning she could not provide a precise number or what positions the unvaccinated employees hold because “it’s a moving target.” Loeb said employees were coming in with vaccination cards last night.
The unvaccinated staff members are not concentrated among any one type of employee, Loeb said, and the hospital is not facing a critical staff shortage as a result of the mandate, she said.
Peconic Bay Medical Center employs more than 1,200 people.
“Unvaccinated employees without exemptions that have been approved or are pending have until 11:59 p.m. Monday to get a shot or they will be let go on Tuesday,” Northwell Health’s Chief Human Resources Officer Maxine Carrington told The New York Times Friday.

East End state lawmakers earlier this month sounded an alarm about the impact of the State Department of Health’s controversial COVID-19 vaccine mandate would have on health care facilities in the local area, but hospital and nursing home officials said they did not foresee staff shortages as a result of the state mandate.
“I can say is that without question, we are well-staffed and able to take care of patients,” Loeb said in an interview this morning. “The number of employees who chose not to be vaccinated is very small at this point in time,” she said.
The vaccine mandate caused “a lot of lost sleep,” Loeb said. “It’s sad to lose anybody, but it’s fortunately not a huge impact.”
Gov. Kathy Hochul on Saturday released a plan she said would address what she called “preventable staff shortages in hospitals and other healthcare facilities statewide.”
The governor’s plan includes preparing to sign an executive order if necessary to declare a state of emergency that seeks to increase workforce supply and allow qualified health care professionals licensed in other states or countries, recent graduates, retired and formerly practicing health care professionals to practice in New York State, according to a press release from the governor’s office.
Other options include deployment of medically-trained National Guard members, and partnering with the federal government to deploy disaster medical assistance teams to assist local health and medical systems.

Rep. Lee Zeldin, the leading Republican candidate for governor, claimed yesterday that the state mandate is “leading to staffing shortages and chaos in our state’s hospitals and nursing homes, and abruptly forcing frontline healthcare workers out of their livelihoods.”
At a press conference outside the state office building in Hauppauge yesterday morning, Zeldin said employees who do not want to take the vaccine should instead be subjected to enhanced PPE and testing requirements.
“Our healthcare workers were nothing short of heroic the past 18 months,” Zeldin said. “They helped us navigate some of the pandemic’s darkest days and saved lives. We shouldn’t be firing these essential workers. We should be thanking them for all they’ve done for our communities,” he said.
Both the New York State Nurses Association and 1199 SEIU, the largest healthcare workers union in the country, oppose vaccine mandates, but both unions support the vaccine and have been urging their members to take the shot.
Workers who are terminated because of refusal to be vaccinated are not eligible for unemployment insurance absent a valid doctor-approved request for medical accommodation.

I can’t believe they mandated the vaccine with no option to test.
These same healthcare workers were told early on to come in to work even if exposed. Wear a mask if you have symptoms. Etc…
They worked during the worst of Covid. Not once did anyone care if they were vaccinated.
Now they are selfish and uneducated if they refuse.
AND the out of state help being brought in during hochuls self made state of emergency have until the end of June to get vaccinated. What a slap in the face.

It is a choice!!! You may not like your choice but it’s still a choice. Want to know what it’s like to not have a choice
Move to North Korea or Afghanistan where you really don’t have a choice.
Listen I go back and forth on the mandate but at the end of the day I land on let everyone make their own choice and face whatever consequences they may or may not get from that choice. Don’t vaccinate get the virus get sick and die it’s on you. Get vaccinated get side effects it’s on you.
But no one can sit there and say we don’t have a choice!! And no one can sit and say this country was ever truly a country where we were free to do what we want . We have always had laws and rules. ans every time a new one is Intordcued you will have people complaining!

I also heard the same Numbers so I wonder how much if an effect a yoke will really see.
Also aren’t nurses mandated to take vaccines now? It’s not like they went into this job not knowing there are mandated already.
I will state again though in the long run I don’t think it should/needs to be a mandate.

I don't think the flu shot was a mandate for healthcare workers. I do know if you didn't get a flu shot you had to wear a mask.
I also believe they tried making the flu shot mandatory and the healthcare workers fought it in court and won.
