It's probably too soon to see a difference just yet since today is Day 2.

Honestly, I think its an awful position to be in to make that decision. It really isn't fair....sorry to those that disagree.

I have a friend who works in the Healthcare industry and she was 10000% against it. But she is single and lives on her own and couldn't afford being fired so she had to get it. Of course, she got the shot and was sick as a dog.

I do give Kudos to those that are standing up for themselves and can actually afford to do so.

It is a choice!!! You may not like your choice but it’s still a choice. Want to know what it’s like to not have a choice
Move to North Korea or Afghanistan where you really don’t have a choice.

Listen I go back and forth on the mandate but at the end of the day I land on let everyone make their own choice and face whatever consequences they may or may not get from that choice. Don’t vaccinate get the virus get sick and die it’s on you. Get vaccinated get side effects it’s on you.

But no one can sit there and say we don’t have a choice!! And no can sit and say this country was ever truly a country where we were free to do what we want . We have always had laws and rules. ans every time a meeting one is Intordcued you will have people complaining!

A mandate does not give you a choice. This is such a dumb statement or defense.

Why do people need to be forced to take this vaccine if it doesn't truly stop the spread??? Why could these medical workers work during the height of the pandemic without a vaccine but cant work now? What a slap in the face. I guess they aren't heroes anymore. I think this is what really upsets me about thus mandate. Its hypocritical and I hate hypocrisy.

If the transmission rate was low then I would understand this mandate but the vaccine does not stop people from getting the virus nor does it stop the transmission. So what is the point if it isn't going to actually protect other staff and patients?

I feel like even the flu shot works better at stopping people from getting the flu and transmission then this vaccine.

This right here is why I have an issue with this too.
So a vaccinated nurse can still transmit Covid to an immunocompromised patient. Or a patient who is fragile and not able to get the vaccine for whatever reason.
So what good is it doing???
It's mitigating the nurse from getting super sick with Covid, great. But that's protecting her. What is this mandate doing to protect fragile patients from Covid being spread by the nurses and doctors?

Exactly, and the vaccine helps you from not getting sick or showing any symptoms. So isn't that more of a threat to a patient, because you may not even know you have it? Does my brain work differently from the rest of the world? Because this shit is not making sense or adding up.

Testing and PPE is the only thing that will actually protect patients and staff.

Since it was only yesterday the mandate took effect, it will probably be a while before we see any major issues. Personally I think it was a big slap in the face to every single health worker who worked tirelessly through the Pandemic to be given this ultimatum.

I’m wondering how it shakes out. I saw over 96% of practicing physicians reported to be fully vaccinated as of June and like 88% of nurses. It sounds like most ARE vaccinated from what I’ve been reading.

Also aren’t nurses mandated to take vaccines now? It’s not like they went into this job not knowing there are mandated already.

Yes. This is not new. Being fully vaccinated was a requirement when they took the job. If you can’t meet the requirements, you can’t have the job. This is not a difficult concept.

Why is it so hard to understand this? It is not a matter of choice when u’re a single mother that depends solely on this job to provide food for her children, to pay for a high mortgage (perks of living in such an expensive state!) so she doesn’t lose her house, to provide for childcare for her children, to pay for her school loans, etc, etc, etc. We’re not talking about attending a concert here. We’re talking about decisions that literally can mean everything to someone. We’re lucky to not be in a situation like that but not everyone has it that way.

Ding ding ding! Testing and PPE are the only things that protect the patients! Whether or not I have a Covid vaccine doesn’t matter to the person next to me…..especially if we are both wearing proper ppe. THAT IS THE PROBLEM. There is no justified reason for the mandate. There should have been a temporary testing option for a minimum of a year.

Not saying I agree or disagree, but IF there were a testing option, who pays for it? The employee? Is that too burdensome? There have been so many complaints about the cost of tseting for school districts etc., so wondering the thought on that

I have never seen an employment contract stipulate “established vaccine.” Healthcare workers need to be fully vaccinated. I am mandated to get a flu vaccine but perhaps that is employer based so I won’t argue that it’s a rule across the state.

If people want to fight this, fine. But the fact remains that vaccines are a condition of employment for healthcare workers. They always have been and from a legal standpoint, there is no qualifier in terms of how long the vaccine has existed.

Honestly I don’t know but testing now is free and so is the vaccine. Who is really paying for those? All the money the government has paid through out this pandemic isn’t it more cost effective to shell it out to these health care facilities where they can actually monitor and reduce the spread.

And I do understand people will still complain about testing over vaccine mandate but to me, this makes logical sense at accomplishing the overall goal.

Most inpatients aren’t wearing PPE 24 hours a day.

It's not "free" - Yes, if you go to get tested, you do not have to pay, but there is a cost involved - salaries for the lab workers, the cost of manufacturing the tests, etc. So "someone" is paying - just not you (general you) when you go for the test. If an employer has to have hundreds (or thousands) of tests performed every week, there is a tremendous cost. Also, do the employees get to go get tested during working hours, or do they have to go on their own time? If during working hours, that is another cost to employers. (I know of one school district where unvaxxed employees are complaining because they have to actually travel to a test site on their own time and want the testing done on site, during work hours -which, I'm sorry, is completely ridiculous)

Depends on your union. My BIL is NYC Sanitation and gets out 3 hours early on his last day of work each week to go get tested.
NYPD wanted the cops to have to take their own time to go test, but they union flipped out saying that would have to go to collective bargaining so now I believe they have testing sites set up in certain precincts throughout the city.
If you have no union though, it's all up in the air

OK - so those are all taxpayer supported jobs. So, when, for example, every sanitation worker gets off 3 hours early, that's on the taxpayers backs. And what about private employers - non-union jobs? Does the employer eat the cost? The employee? If you refuse the vaccine, should your employer bear the cost of that?

It’s mandated for a job or to do things it’s still a choice. Get it or don’t work there. Or don’t attend events. Is it a good choice ? No. Does it suck ? Yes!! But it still A choice and that’s the point.

Forcing someone to do something is not a freaking choice. I swear people are so dense. I force someone to give me their money, they had a choice not to and die. It’s a ****** choice but still a choice, ya know. Chat Icon

ETA: cue in the apples to orange, that’s not the same, it’s a pandemic.. yea yea we know. Save your fingers from typing it.

What’s so hard to understand it’s still a freaking choice. No one is forcing you to do it. I don’t get why people don’t see that.

Again the choice sucks and it’s hard one but it’s a choice. Yes the Choice of quitting a job and not being able to provide for your family is a choice it’s not a good choice and it damn well blows but it’s a choice. You get to decide what’s worth it to you. You can find a new job again not easy but you can. Will I argue with you of yku say its the worse ans ****** coljocies you can have no I won’t cause you are right. Choosing to provide for your family and get a vaccine you don’t want or losing your job and not being able to provide for your family is a crappy choice but it’s still a choice.

Again I will point back to my original comment. You want to know what it really feels like to not have a choice then move to North Korea or Afghanistan and then you’ll really know what it feels like to not have choices!!

Also again I don’t think a mandate is necessary just stating it’s still a choice. No one is holding you down making you get the vaccine. When that happens then it’s really not a choice.

There should have been a temporary testing option for a minimum of a year.

Not saying I agree or disagree, but IF there were a testing option, who pays for it? The employee? Is that too burdensome? There have been so many complaints about the cost of tseting for school districts etc., so wondering the thought on that

No idea. But sadly that's how unions work.
Personally ,I'm not a fan of unions for many of those reasons.

It’s mandated for a job or to do things it’s still a choice. Get it or don’t work there. Or don’t attend events. Is it a good choice ? No. Does it suck ? Yes!! But it still A choice and that’s the point.

So if someone puts a gun to your head and says, have sex with me or I'll shoot you.
And you chose to be raped rather than die... does that mean you CHOSE to be raped?
Well your honor, she had a choice, I could have killed her, but she chose to be raped. So that was consent?

Ding ding ding! Testing and PPE are the only things that protect the patients! I agree. But the comment why can't they allow testing was asked. And no one is willing to say how it will be paid for - because even though "testing is free", there is still a cost. For those who are suggesting a testing option should be available - how do you think it should be paid for?

I never said it was easy and had a full plan in place. I understand overhead cost and resource constraints. I was just saying my overall opinion. I also don’t think any of this is really free. But testing is more logical then a vaccine mandate if the purpose is to protect staff and patients.

I agree. I think the vast majority are vaccinated. It was a terrible position to put them in though.

No it's not It's their job. They know the requirements. They want to willingly put people at risk and thats unacceptable. Let them go find new jobs. Let them see that their fringe ideology will only keep them in the minority.

Answer the question since the vaccine does not stop people from getting or spreading Covid. So how about you answer it since it seems like no one ever does, instead of putting a stupid ass remark. This is why people can’t have a civil conversation around here.
