Am I the only one excited
that you don't have to wear masks on planes anymore? I don't even have plans to go on one but even if I pick someone up at the airport I don't have to wear a mask.
I am thinking I have always been more excited not to have to wear a mask this entire time.

It's a step in the right direction but, I don't have any immediate travel plans so I guess I'm not as excited as I was when they removed masks in schools.

I'll still be wearing mine. I like not catching other people's stomach bugs, colds, and flu.

Yeah I get that. I don't have plane plans either but anything that is a step in the right direction makes me happy for myself and for others

But you never wore one before, right? Not just to you but I hear this for others and no one had any problem before this as masks are not something new in this world.

You’re right. People never wore one before. And we’d come back from vacations sick and complaining that we caught something on the plane. Now that masks are not so far fetched And much more accessible, it’s as if they’ve become an option.

But did nobody think before, hey I always get sick after being on a plane, maybe I should wear a mask to avoid it? Or on the train when everyone was hacking and sneezing? It's like masks were just invented in March of 2020 or something. I don't get it. Was it that they weren't socially acceptable back then and now all of a sudden they are?

Re: Am I the only one excited
I haven't flown in a very long time, but I am hopeful that masks won't be required in Ubers much longer. I get bad car sickness sometimes and I typically have it under control with medicine, but I've had bad attacks when having to wear a mask in a car.
I also rode the bus once with a mask, and the same thing happened. I was crying and shaking on the bus. Feeling nauseated was compounded by the mask, and I started getting claustrophobic, sweaty, and panicked because I felt trapped.

I was in 2 NYC cabs on Friday and didn't wear a mask. not a word was said by either driver. Are they still really enforcing it in an Uber?
And I feel you because I would get panic attacks in Target when I had to wear one. I would feel like I couldn't breath and start to panic. I would have to pull it down or walk out. It was awful

I just got an email from Uber, masks are not required anymore.
Did people really get sick after every travel from vacation or are people being dramatic? I don’t think I ever got sick from a plane ride.
I don’t really care about the masks on a plane. I just didn’t want masks in schools or be forced to vaccinate my son.

Honestly I have been hearing for the last 2 years that flying in a plane was the best option as there was no super spreaders and people were not getting sick, mostly because of the air filtration.
If anyone came home sick, it was from the vacation itself, not the plane.

And yet all i hear is how the filtration system on planes is better than anywhere else. You probably have the least chance of an airborne illness on a plane. Maybe people just never wash their hands. Or have shittty immune systems.
And I agree with you- all this is great but my only concern is never having to vaccinate my child against my will. Or myself for that matter.

Exactly. I have heard people saying that others are just so disgusting and I will continue wearing a mask. This is NOTHING new, people have ALWAYS been dirty and disgusting and people have worn masks forever in many places. It is just an excuse, honestly for their fear now. You have every right to wear one but don't force it on everyone else because you have been feared of NOW getting sick when you had NO problem for like 30, 40, 50 + years.

If they HAVE gotten sick, it probably is because their immune system was down while vacationing as you know you have different eating and sleeping schedules when you go away. They most likely got sick before they left and some will blame the plane when they have proven planes are NOT a place you would most likely get sick.

The hand washing thing makes me laugh as I live with slobs who barely get sick and didn't get covid. I am a HUGE hand washer and always have been so I basically buy hand soap in my bathroom for me and any other guests

I really think your immune system is your immune system. I know people who are super clean, super careful and they get sick literally all the time. Then there is DH who is not really a hand washer, never stopped going places during Covid , was back in the gym day one that they reopened and he is never ever sick. I'm also pretty lax and I'm never sick. I really think it's luck of the genetic draw and then you just use some common sense practices.

Absolutely. I haven’t been on a plane in over 6 years. I’m going away next weekend and now they pull the masks ? Hahahaha I’ll have one on. Forget just covid. Everyone around here has the flu and these weird high fever viruses right now. No thanks Spring break probably wasn’t the best time to pull them, but I guess that’s part of the experiment.

I swear I used to see them at CVS etc. And of course you could always get them at Home Depot etc for dust, painting, construction. DH had a bunch of those masks from when he would work with insulation or sanding dry wall etc I even would see the landscapers wearing them to avoid all the pollen in the spring I would see people in Penn Station sometimes wearing masks before all this- I mean very few, but I remember seeing them. But now it's become socially acceptable.

ITA agree. My oldest went out with friends probably a week later after this started which annoyed me, slept next to someone who had covid on a trip and has never gotten it. I have been exposed at work and with friends and didn't get it then either.

Who cares if people decide to keep wearing masks now? Most people probably didn't think to buy them in years past and after having to wear them they decided that they prefer to wear them in certain scenarios for whatever reason.
I don't know why it seems to bother you that some people continue to wear masks.
Everyone decides for themselves what they are comfortable with and it literally has zero impact on me if someone else chooses to wear a mask.

I’ve always tried to avoid getting sick. When germs are going around, I have always upped my hand washing and general sanitizing of high touch surfaces. Just because you were never concerned doesn’t mean other people weren’t. I think many didn’t think about wearing a mask because it honestly wasn’t “socially acceptable”.

Of course the mask were there, but no one paid attention to it because we weren't running out to buy them in droves. all the Asians in my town would wear masks when sick. I also used to see elderly with masks on as well; I am sure they were immunocompromised, maybe getting chemo treatments etc.
It just wasn't part of the American culture. Now it is.
