I'll still be wearing mine. I like not catching other people's stomach bugs, colds, and flu.
But you never wore one before, right? Not just to you but I hear this for others and no one had any problem before this as masks are not something new in this world.
You’re right. People never wore one before. And we’d come back from vacations sick and complaining that we caught something on the plane. Now that masks are not so far fetched And much more accessible, it’s as if they’ve become an option.
But did nobody think before, hey I always get sick after being on a plane, maybe I should wear a mask to avoid it? Or on the train when everyone was hacking and sneezing? It's like masks were just invented in March of 2020 or something. I don't get it. Was it that they weren't socially acceptable back then and now all of a sudden they are?
Honestly, before 2020, where would you get a mask ? Lol Even when Covid started, people were like Where can I find masks?
I am sure they were out there but none of us had an interest in looking for them. People wore them to do work in their homes and such.
Of course the mask were there, but no one paid attention to it because we weren't running out to buy them in droves. all the Asians in my town would wear masks when sick. I also used to see elderly with masks on as well; I am sure they were immunocompromised, maybe getting chemo treatments etc.
It just wasn't part of the American culture. Now it is.
Exactly! And now that it IS, there are still situations where I see myself wearing them. I just prefer them in situations where there are a LOT of people in a confined space.

Absolutely. I haven’t been on a plane in over 6 years. I’m going away next weekend and now they pull the masks ? Hahahaha I’ll have one on. Forget just covid. Everyone around here has the flu and these weird high fever viruses right now. No thanks Spring break probably wasn’t the best time to pull them, but I guess that’s part of the experiment.
But all of this has been around forever and it didn't bother anyone then. Everyone went about their way and didn't question if they should be wearing a mask because someone next to them might be sick or have a virus or the flu.
Anyone and everyone? Doesn’t Include me. I’ve always thought of it. I’m the guy who brings antibacterial wipes on the plane and wipes every single thing I could possibly touch down before sitting. I’m the one who is well aware of people hacking or sneezing a ton and wondering why the F did they get on the plane. I also try not to travel during peak flu season. I never thought of masks before because honestly it didn’t even occur to me. I also get sick easily and stay sick long so I am always cautious.

Who cares if people decide to keep wearing masks now? Most people probably didn't think to buy them in years past and after having to wear them they decided that they prefer to wear them in certain scenarios for whatever reason.
I don't know why it seems to bother you that some people continue to wear masks.
Everyone decides for themselves what they are comfortable with and it literally has zero impact on me if someone else chooses to wear a mask.
It is not being bothered but questioning if you were so afraid of sick people, why not take any precautions back then? No one really did, IME.

I’ve always tried to avoid getting sick. When germs are going around, I have always upped my hand washing and general sanitizing of high touch surfaces. Just because you were never concerned doesn’t mean other people weren’t. I think many didn’t think about wearing a mask because it honestly wasn’t “socially acceptable”.
Never did any of those but I guess some people did.

Agreed but it was available and it seems people will just go with the crowd. Back then they would have been made fun of so they didn't, even if they really were scared as I don't think MANY were and this just increased their fear. Now they think they are better than everyone else because they are wearing a mask. (If you don't believe this, go on ANY debate on news sources on social media).

Uggh that stinks getting sick easily. Knock on wood I haven't. as well as my family and I am NOT a germaphobe in anyway (except for hygiene and washing my hands but always have been like that) and live like you need to eat some dirt. You need to build your immune system up as the slight drop WILL get MOST people sick. Anything out of routine can and will drop your immune system.

Am I the only one excited
It makes me sad when people think they need to all of a sudden wear masks to ward off germs. Our body was built to handle germs and build resistance. The other day I saw an older women double masked and gloved up. This women probably lived through some pretty scary things and here she is now afraid to go out without a mask. Even a Drs. office why do we need masks there now we never did before. Took my daughter to an eye glasses place and it stated it was considered a medical facility and masks must be worn...really??? 2020 has definitely left a pretty deep mark.

OMG yes, my dh just said the same thing, why do we still have to mask up in a doctor's office when I don't have to anyplace else? People don't get that you NEED to be around germs as your body has an immune system to fight things that make you sick. They want to hide in a bubble from it all and they will NEVER be able to unmask if that is the case as the first time you do, you will get sick.
I saw a woman the other day masked and gloved up picking up dinner. She asked us all to move away from her. If you are THAT scared, you need to either do curbside, get it delivered or have someone else pick up the food for you. She was VERY paranoid and could barely stand still. It was actually quite sad and I felt bad for her but now she is making others included in her issues. She is lucky we all just said ok as one day she is going to come across someone who is not as nice.

that you don't have to wear masks on planes anymore? I don't even have plans to go on one but even if I pick someone up at the airport I don't have to wear a mask.
I am thinking I have always been more excited not to have to wear a mask this entire time.
FYI- it is still required in NYC airports. Not sure how much it will be enforced.

Yeah, I am thinking people are not getting their masks back out after getting off a plane to go into the airport. The city just can't take their grip off of control. It is actually quite pathetic.

I always say I am interested read to the studies on how this has psychologically impacted people- more so than physically. I find it fascinating.

I"m sure it has. I have a friend who is freaking out that it's spreading again and is reverting back to 2020 practices... Even though her family N95s everywhere...
I kind of see the point at the doctors office as there could be sick people there... My dad is in the hospital right now in isolation as he was exposed to Covid by someone at the hospital.

Remember sitting in the sick room at the pediatrics? We all had to do it. We all survived without masks.

Yes - and I did that recently with a kid with Covid - so I'm sure they wouldn't love it if he got all of the staff and anyone in the waiting room sick. If it's the only place we have to mask, and it's for a relatively short period of time, I'm ok with it.
I have friends in the medical field and they feel masks at medical establishments are here to stay for awhile.

It really does. I have auto immune disease And now possible RA (further testing needed) so it’s definitely harder for me.

Excited? No. Confused? Yes. Makes no sense. You can ride in an airplane or a train with no mask but millions cannot even work without a vaccine? Masks have been shown to stop the spread of the virus, vaccines have been shown to not. Yet you can sit on an enclosed airplane, less than a foot next to a stranger for hours but you can't go to work in your own office, away from anyone without a vaccine that doesn't work? You can ride the NJ transit into work with no mask or vaccine but you can't work in the city anymore if you aren't fully vaccinated? So, what's the deal? Are we worried about covid or not?
I know an entire family with COVID that got on a plane to Disney this week. But, don't worry if they are sitting next to you without wearing their masks...they are fully vaccinated.

Yup there is no common sense. I am not for masks BUT I am less for mandated vaccines.

This is me. I have always wiped everything down on the plane. Actually the year the flu was really bad in 2018 I contemplated wearing masks on the plane. I can't tell you how many people I know who go on vacation and end up sick two or three days into their trip. Whether it be from the plane germs, germs at their destination or what-have-you, I try to be really proactive because who wants go be sick on vacation?

Or maybe their system is run down for all the changes you go through preparing for a vacation, your routine changing. Maybe getting up earlier, eating schedule changes, less sleep.

Am I the only one excited
Just flew home today to ISP maskless and it was amazing. Reading the breaking news yesterday as we were packing was incredible especially for the fact of not having to mask my 2 year old coming home. If I said 10% of the plane was still in masks, I think my percentage would still be too high. It was less than that. Flight attendants and pilots were all maskless.

I saw videos of pilots announcing it mid flights yesterday when the news came down and everyone ripping off their masks and cheering. It was great

I am glad they are mandated anymore but I will say I absolutely saw people wearing masks on mass transit and planes well before Covid. In many parts of the world mask wearing is a normal occurrence. As long as it is not mandated then let people do as they wish.
