Just flew home today to ISP maskless and it was amazing. Reading the breaking news yesterday as we were packing was incredible especially for the fact of not having to mask my 2 year old coming home. If I said 10% of the plane was still in masks, I think my percentage would still be too high. It was less than that. Flight attendants and pilots were all maskless.
I saw videos of pilots announcing it mid flights yesterday when the news came down and everyone ripping off their masks and cheering. It was great
Yes I heard that last night and saw it today. This board seems to be in the minority.

I’m so happy. Great news ! So no more 2 year olds getting kicked off a flight because they couldn’t keep a mask on and were “endangering” the plane. This whole thing has been an absolute clown show on every single level. Glad that it is essentially over now.

They should have just given out Academy awards, or thrown a football around, or had a concert on flights. These things are covid safe and we could have removed masks on planes much sooner.

It makes me sad when people think they need to all of a sudden wear masks to ward off germs. Our body was built to handle germs and build resistance. The other day I saw an older women double masked and gloved up. This women probably lived through some pretty scary things and here she is now afraid to go out without a mask. Even a Drs. office why do we need masks there now we never did before. Took my daughter to an eye glasses place and it stated it was considered a medical facility and masks must be worn...really??? 2020 has definitely left a pretty deep mark.
I always say I am interested read to the studies on how this has psychologically impacted people- more so than physically. I find it fascinating.
I"m sure it has. I have a friend who is freaking out that it's spreading again and is reverting back to 2020 practices... Even though her family N95s everywhere...
I kind of see the point at the doctors office as there could be sick people there... My dad is in the hospital right now in isolation as he was exposed to Covid by someone at the hospital.
Remember sitting in the sick room at the pediatrics? We all had to do it. We all survived without masks.
Yes - separated and such.
But the one time that my DS had chicken pox, they threw him and DH in a storage room to isolate him so there were always some illnesses that pediatricians were concerned about spread.
It is what it is - I don't mind using it to go into a doctors office, where likely there are sick people there, as long as I don't have to wear it elsewhere.
We flew in the fall and it was horrible - they boarded us on a plane in FL with non working airconditioning and we had to stay masked - they deplaned us but we were in the last row and it was horrible.

OMG that is crazy, a storage room
Not all doctors offices are for sick people though so when my child has to go to the dermatologist, I find it actually ridiculous but I do as I am told.

Or the eye doctor. Or the dentist. Or the urologist. Or the gyno Or pretty much any specialist that isn't a PCP or an urgent care where you go when sick.

They just reversed it for MacArthur. Let's see how many are going to put on a mask after a mask less flight to go get their luggage or just walk out the door. Who the HECK is there to even enforce it? It is always deserted anytime I have ever flown in and out.

Yeah good luck with that. So ridiculous. You just sat on a flight for 3 hours maskless but because you land in the shithole that is NY you have throw a mask on to walk through the airport. How does that make sense from a 'science' standpoint? Or better yet.... you have to wear your mask at the airport but then get on the flight and rip if off?
Please. Kiss my @ss

It all makes no sense. While I agree masks should be optional on a plane, you are sitting next to people for hours and it is not required now but you can't walk through and empty terminal without one. WHO is actually making these decisions? Just stop and use your head for once.

Because it's not about health and it's not about science and it's not about making sense or any kind of logical. It's about political power grabs. That's all it is at this point and it's laughable When is this theater going to end? Never

This morning on the news they were talking about how the NY airports were still making it mandatory in the terminals. The guy said it is LUNACY. He is right. TOTAL lunacy. I bet it is only NY too.

Then they wonder why nobody listens to a word they say. Like the LIRR on Friday- barely a mask worn including the conductor and this was when the mandate was still in effect on public transportation. Because nobody listens to the bulllshit rules anymore because they don't make sense. Enough. I'm not wearing one anymore. Period. Come arrest me.

My youngest went yesterday and last week on the train and said not one person said a thing about masks. Even someone said at JFK (where it is supposed to be mandatory still), yesterday no one was monitoring anyone and saying a word to maskless people.

Re: Am I the only one excited
So they stick Kevin V. at the airport last night with a mask interviewing people who are saying they are confused as they keep changing the rules and no one is enforcing them. The staff and people going to take planes had no masks on. NY is such a joke.

I haven't flown in a very long time, but I am hopeful that masks won't be required in Ubers much longer. I get bad car sickness sometimes and I typically have it under control with medicine, but I've had bad attacks when having to wear a mask in a car.
I also rode the bus once with a mask, and the same thing happened. I was crying and shaking on the bus. Feeling nauseated was compounded by the mask, and I started getting claustrophobic, sweaty, and panicked because I felt trapped.
I just got an email from Uber, masks are not required anymore.
Did people really get sick after every travel from vacation or are people being dramatic? I don’t think I ever got sick from a plane ride.
I don’t really care about the masks on a plane. I just didn’t want masks in schools or be forced to vaccinate my son.
And yet all i hear is how the filtration system on planes is better than anywhere else. You probably have the least chance of an airborne illness on a plane. Maybe people just never wash their hands. Or have shittty immune systems.
And I agree with you- all this is great but my only concern is never having to vaccinate my child against my will. Or myself for that matter.
The hand washing thing makes me laugh as I live with slobs who barely get sick and didn't get covid. I am a HUGE hand washer and always have been so I basically buy hand soap in my bathroom for me and any other guests
I really think your immune system is your immune system. I know people who are super clean, super careful and they get sick literally all the time. Then there is DH who is not really a hand washer, never stopped going places during Covid , was back in the gym day one that they reopened and he is never ever sick. I'm also pretty lax and I'm never sick. I really think it's luck of the genetic draw and then you just use some common sense practices.
More than genes, it has to do with a combination of things, ur microbiome playing a big role and of course for people that have ocd with cleaning, disinfect everything, etc, that can bring a problem too. We can’t kill all microorganisms in the name of health, we need them as much as they need us. It’s a balance.

That would explain why I rarely every sick! I am about as far opposite as OCD with cleaning as one can get! I KNEW it would pay off somehow! Wait until I tell DH!

ITA and many don't realize that you get sick when your immune system is down so any minor change could lower it and you will catch whatever is around, no matter how much hand sanitizer you slop on your hands.

Re: Am I the only one excited
Thought I’d update on the plane situation. On Yesterdays flight, probably 90% of people wore a mask.

Really? That is actually sad that people are not moving on or they just don’t know because they don’t listen to the news. How about the terminal and the employees?

I think it depends on where you're going/coming from. I flew home from Florida into JFK yesterday, and Jet Blue announced before we took off that masks are now optional on all airlines and in all airports in the U.S. I would estimate that 1 in 5 people on the flight wore masks, but again, this was coming from Florida, where I literally did not see a mask all week. When we got to JFK, about 25% of people were wearing masks.

Why is that sad? Who says they are not moving on? Apparently they are, because they are flying to where they want to go. They want to wear a mask because they feel more comfortable and safe.
