A co-worker really freaked me out yesterday
His wife is going in today for a c-section and we were just chatting about everything being ready and then he drops a bomb on me...
At his 20 week ultra sound they were told they were having a boy then then had a ultra sound at 27 weeks and told it was a boy THEN at 35 weeks....BAM! Just kidding its a girl!!!!!
How likely is this? It's just got me realllly freaked out because we have a BAZILLION things already for a boy.

Re: A co-worker really freaked me out yesterday
Unfortunately unless you get an amnio it can never be 100%.
I think it can only be as good as the sono technician.
I am sure for the most part it is correct though

Re: A co-worker really freaked me out yesterday
I heard stories like this before, but no one *I* ever knew so I think I chalked them up to being old wives tales. I don't get another ultra sound until 35 (ish) weeks....Man...two more months of freaking out wondering "What if she were wrong"

Re: A co-worker really freaked me out yesterday
I was in my Dr's office waiting and I overheard a conversation between two woman. One said to the other, who was holding a baby girl, I remember seeing you here when you were pregnant. The woman with the baby said oh yeah...here she is, she was supposed to be a boy!!! She said her room is still all blue!
I have not heard of this before, so I don't think it is too common, but it can happen!!!

I've heard this several times....sometimes the labia can resemble a penis, that's one area of confusion.

It happened to a coworker of mine and my dentist.
When people ask me if I know what I'm having, I tell them "They say it's a girl."

Re: A co-worker really freaked me out yesterday
I worked at a children's clothing store in Roosevelt Field during college and unfortunately, this was pretty common! At least once a week we would get a phone call that someone was coming down to exchange a going-home outfit because the sono was wrong.
Most instances - they think it's a girl and it turns out to be a boy. I don't remember too many - boy to girl mistakes.

Re: A co-worker really freaked me out yesterday
I heard of things like this happening. I had to have an amnio done because of the AFP blood results, so I know for sure mine is a boy.
I don't trust what sonos and ulstrasounds to tell you what sex it is...LOL

THEN at 35 weeks....BAM! Just kidding its a girl!!!!!
I'm confused. Was the doctor/tech actually 'kidding' all along? If so, that's kind of dumb/unprofessional (and certainly different than being mistaken, no?)

Re: A co-worker really freaked me out yesterday
mostly it is mistaken that they say its a girl and then it winds up being a boy .when they see its a boy its a boy because they see the little pecker as my cousin calls it. Its a shame because it isnt 100% correct but more times then nown it is. just hope that when its sono time the baby is right out there not hiding anything lol

Re: A co-worker really freaked me out yesterday
This is one of the reasons why I did not want to find out. Actually, I believe some doctors are actually not giving patients the option to find out, for the fact that it's not 100%.
Btw, I had a dream last night, that my doctor told me it was a boy early on, and then when the baby was born, it was a girl! I was shocked, but amazed & in love either way.
For those who's opted to find out, I hope that your doctors were right.

Re: A co-worker really freaked me out yesterday
It really depends on the experience of the sono tech.
I was told at my level II 95% girl, and at 33 weeks I saw girl parts and was told 100% girl.
Even so, we have a boys name just in case
If she comes out a he, I don't think I would mess him up too much if I put him in pink for the 1st couple months..hehehehehe

Re: A co-worker really freaked me out yesterday
I saw on a baby story on TLC one time about a woman who was having twin girls....so they decked out the nursery in pink everything.....during the birth the first baby comes out and the doctor says it's a boy...and she was like "no it's not". Second baby was also a boy. The husband was freaking and he repainted the room blue while she was still in the hospital and the mother of the woman was crazy returning pink things and buying blue things to have the room re-done by the time she came home.

Re: A co-worker really freaked me out yesterday
This happened to one of DH's co workers who had their baby about 1 month before Sarah was born. I forget what they thought it was and what it ended up being, there were 6 babies born in 2 months. And there are only 20 people in the NY office!
