So excited to learn that there will be a sequel! I had no idea that it was intended to be a part of a trilogy. No wonder when it was over I was a little Chat Icon wondering why she would leave it hanging it like that. Can't wait for it to come out! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Anyone else?

Re: A Discovery of Witches

I just finished this one--and I had to force myself through it. I have friends who didn't even bother to finish it, and we're big paranormal fans. I'm really surprised at all the good reviews. There were definitely some interesting ideas in this one, but I think it got completely bogged down with unnecessary descriptions and chapter after chapter with no tension to carry the reader through even the lulls. I think everything from chapter six to, like, 29 could have been cut. I was way more interested in life at the Bishop house than her rowing, or yoga, or them riding, or her reading--again, or her having more tea. I felt nothing for these characters.

I really liked it and look forward to the sequel- but it really could have been waaayyy shorter. The end picked up for me, fortunately. Long books don't usually deter me but this one could have lost 100 pages and nothing would have been compromised.

I liked how the book had different acts. As one adventure/journey ended, a new one began. Could it have been shorter? Sure, but I didn't mind the length.
