A few IVF questions from a first timer..
1. Progersterone shots vs. suppositories: At LIIVF you do the shots from retrieval to transfer and then switch to the suppositories. I thought most places do the shots only, unless it is a FET. I am worried about switching over and about the suppositories not getting to where they need to be.
2. Once you start the ganarelx, should you expect your trigger to be in the next 5 days? I say that because they gave me only 5 days of it.
3. How necessary is it to freeze sperm. DH does have infertility issues but has never had a problem producing on days of IUIs and counts were over 3mil post wash at least. We are doing ICSI. DH having to go is kinda an inconvenience at this point and I don't want to bother if we don't have to. How many of you did and did not freeze some sperm?
4. How many days bed rest did you have after the transfer?
Thanks in advance! These questions have been running through my mind!

Re: A few IVF questions from a first timer..
1. I had the same protocol as you- startyed my progesterone shots right after transfer. As soon as I got my BFP the doctor took me off but on my second beta my progesterone was still low so they put me back on the shots... the following beta which i think was a little less than a week my progesterone SHOT up... talk to the doc and see how your body handles progesterone... he should know...
2. I went for my ET about 5-6 days after ganirelex... I remember i needed extra ganirelex and kept switching back and forth from 3 vials to menopur to 4...
3. i havent heard of freezeing sperm? we just froze embryos...
4. they told me i didnt have to bedrest. luckily i had the transfer on a saturday and was on bedrest for the weekend. went back to work as normal on monday... they did however tell me i could go on with my day. i just felt more comfortable resting...

1. My RE said there was not much difference between suppositories and the shot. That being said my first two IVFs I did the suppositories and my progesterone levels came back very low. During transfer RE even commented that it didnt appear that they were absorbing very well. My last IVF I did the shot and they better than I expected. 2. I have had IVF cycles where I had to be on gannirelex more than 5 days. At that point I was in the office for monitoring every day so all I did was tell the nurse and she called in a prescription for more. 3. We never froze DH's sperm. He always produced that day. 4. I only rested the day of the transfer (same for retrieval). Once they're there...they're there...

-- I used both suppositories and PIO (at different times) and they were both just as effective.

-- Ganirelix is used as you near trigger so that your follies don't prematurely ovulate...

-- We didn't freeze sperm.
4. How many days bed rest did you have after the transfer?
-- I did 48 hours of bedrest (my own idea - not my RE's)

I did the PIO shots on days 1, 2, 3 after the transfer and then switched to the caps. Thank god-----i am scrawny and those PIO shots hurt! Whenever they checked my progesterone, it was super high so the caps had to be working!

I will FM U my timeline.

We were going to and then forgot. I think we would have definintely done it if there was a chance that DH would be away or couldn't get off of work.
4. How many days bed rest did you have after the transfer?
I didn't leave my couch for 36 hours. I did take a full week off from work bc I commute 3 hours total each day and have a high-stress job. I think the relaxation helped me!
HTH!

Re: A few IVF questions from a first timer..
I can't answer the first 2 b/c I was just on the shots and didn't take ganarelx.
3. We did not freeze sperm but that's b/c DH's counts were always close to or over 100 mill. I would feeze them if I were you as a just in case. I've heard some men can have off days and you wouldn't want your cycle canceled because of it.
4. I had no bed rest- I rested the rest of the night on the day of the transfer but was back at work the next day.
