Because I'm torturing myself...what if BFP after IVF questions
So, if this IVF cycle works and I get a BFP (fingers crossed that I'm not jinxing myself for writing this), but I keep wondering and making myself nuts wondering about the answers...
How often after you get the BFP do you have to go back to the RE?
and
Do you really have to take the progesterone shots for three months?
Has anyone given themselves the progesterone shots? I'm just thinking that even after the transfer if DH has to work late or something and if I would have to give it to myself if it was possible. Those needles scare me!
So, even though I said I'd take it one day at a time, I am still driving myself nuts (just not as bad).
thanks guys...sorry to ramble.

Re: Because I'm torturing myself...what if BFP after IVF questions
If my pregnancy had lasted after my BFP, I would have had to continue on the PIO shots until I was released from my RE at 8 weeks, unless they said otherwise. After getting my BFP, I was scheduled to come back once per week for a sonogram until I was released at 8 weeks.
HTH!
ETA: I know there are a couple of ladies here that have done the PIO's themselves... I give them ALOT of credit, because I know I couldn't do it!

Re: Because I'm torturing myself...what if BFP after IVF questions
I saw the Dr a week after the BFP I think. ( The RE) and they tried for a sono...And then weekly for a few weeks ( till 7 weeks) .... I had 3 sonos alltogether with the RE before being released.
Yes, I was on Progesterone shots till 12 weeks.
And Dh did them all...I had my aunt do one when DH had to go somewhere.
good luck!

Thanks...that does help a lot. We are supposed to be away for a little over a week in July (if I'm allowed to fly), so I guess I'll just schedule the weekly appts around that.

I stayed with my RE till 10-11 weeks, before I graduted from them, because my Progestorone was low, and yes I was on the shots for that long as well.

Re: Because I'm torturing myself...what if BFP after IVF questions
I have seen the RE 3 times since the ET for 3 betas and 2 u/s. My first OB appt is scheduled for 8wks. I have to continue PIO until 9wks but if it wasn't for the twins it would have been longer. Due to dh not being home a few nights I had to self administer the pio and it was not that hard. First I watched a couple of women on youtube. Then I went into the bathroom in front of the mirror and just did it. I was surprised how easy it was and if you dart the needle the entire tip disappears quickly. However I still prefer to let dh do it since he gives me a tushy massage with a hot towel afterwards, helps with all of those knots.

I did my pio shots myself too. It really wasn't that bad and actually, I preferred doing it myself sometimes. What really helped me is that I drew a target so I had something to aim for!!! Then I iced the area for a while while I heated the pio in my bra. I watched myself in the mirror and it was over really quickly.
