A few questions for my upcoming 5k

First, what the hell do I wear? I only run inside, so I'm not prepared for this. The weather is supposed to be 64 degrees and overcast. When I run inside I wear running tights, long sports bra and a tank over it. Is that going to be enough?

Second, what the hell do I do with my Iphone? When I run on the treadmill, I put it on the treadmill. When I was running outside in the cold I would put it in a little pocket in my running jacket, but clearly I can't wear my jacket when it's 64 degrees, I'll overheat. So what do I do with it??

Do they sell a strap to put around your arm or a clip to go on your waste band so it can be hands-free?
Also at 64 degrees, that sounds like you will be plenty warm with what you are planning to wear. I *might* be more inclined to wear a running t-shirt though instead of a tank. Whatever you do, try it out for a couple of runs before the race.

First off, congrats on your first 5K!! They're addicting so be prepared...it won't be your last! Chat Icon

As for what to wear, you will definitely overheat if you wear a jacket so if it's chilly, I think a long sleeved running shirt would be good. If it's warmer and you can, just wear a short sleeved shirt. You may not know until that morning which option to go with.

As for your Iphone, I'd go and get a case for it that allows you to wear it on your arm. Apple probably sells them. Do you listen to music through your phone? If so, then that's probably a good option.

Good luck! Chat Icon

I would wear a short sleeved shirt and either running capris or shorts. But what you said sounds warm enough if that's what you have. Can you buy an armband for your ipod? By the way I'm so excited for you! I hurt my knee and can't race right now so I am living vicariously through everyone else. Like theresa said they are addicting and I qlso bet this will be the first of many many 5ks. Good luck!

They do sell armbands, I have one for my Droid. However, I don't use it much!!

I would go with shorts, anything above 50, I'm in shorts, especially for races!

Good luck and yes, very addicting!!

64 is warm. I would wear a tee-shirt and shorts. If you are concerned about being cold. I would throw on a long sleeve shirt and tie it around my waist.

As for your I-Phone, buy an arm band and you will be set.

I have to agree! 64 is WARM! I usually do a tank and shorts (I do short sleeves and shorts as long as it's above 32!). Will someone be with you at the start? You can give them any clothes that you wear in the morning to keep you warm right before starting - or take "throw away" clothes - clothes you don't mind not getting back and leave them at the start.

If you are used to tights, you can get "spandex" shorts. They aren't your 90's spandex shorts - they definitely have a little more style to them. I like them to avoid chafing.

Good luck

Thanks everyone!!!! I have running capris I'll wear... And DH and the girls are coming to watch so I'll wear a jacket there and then pass it off to him when it starts.

Guess I'll go get an armband for my IPhone tomorrow!!!

Re. IPhone - make sure the race you are running in allows headphones. Some races prohibit it. I have been in some where they take them away from people before the start.

Good luck!!!!

I wear running capris too and a sport top that wicks sweat away for most races.

I never wear shorts until they have some color on them- I hate my pale legs!Chat Icon
