I don't know. I am conflicted. Normally I would think it's kinda cute to get a little love note but there is something about a little girl saying "you're hot" and calling someone "baby" that doesn't sit quite right with me. I am sure it's completely harmless but I think if it were my DD who wrote a note like that I would be a little Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon . Just doesn't quite sound like a little girl, KWIM?

I agree.

I also agree...I don't think it's cute for a little girl to be calling a little boy 'baby' and 'you're hot', it also doesn't sit well with me.

See, thats the thing..while I'm not ill over it or anything, (i totally know they don't even know what they're saying at this age) I just wasn't so keen on the "baby" and "hot" talk. ONLY because she just turned 6. I just feel like its overly mature talk for a little kid. my SIL was HORRIFIED and called me when she saw it. She has 2 DD's (ages 6 and 3) and was like "OMG my daughter wouldn't know what those terms were!".

Whatever...I know it isn't a big deal. I'm not upset in the least, i was more taken aback!

ITA with this. I think this girl is watching way too much tv/listening to adult music/exposed to social media that she shouldn't be etc. I have a kindergartener as well (albeit he is not 6 yet but, I don't think that is the difference maker) and he would have NO clue what to make of this and would NEVER even think up something like this and I can honestly say most of his friends are the same. I've been in the classroom enough to know this isn't the norm for this age. Either this girl has older siblings that aren't sensoring themselves or she is exposed to social media that is not appropriate for her age group. JMO.

My DD will be 6 in 2 weeks. She would never, ever write something like that, nor would she even know to use those kinds of words.

There's either an older sibling influence, or way too much inappropriate TV in that little girl's life, IMO.

My DD was watching Barney the other day (which she never even watched when she was younger! She just found it on Netflix) and my DH told her it was a "baby show" - I was like HELLOOOO, let her watch that as long as she wants, I am NOT ready for the tween stuff!!

I agree 100%!! Seems like she had a little help writing that, and if she didn't, I would be a little worried.

I dont' have any kids yet (one on the way tho), but my initial thought was if my DD wrote this I would want to have a conversation with her about certain words/phrases being inappropriate for children. Would that be making a bigger deal of it than it is?

Yikes. As the mom of a 13 month old DD, it scares me a little to think that one day (not so far away), that might be my little girl talking like that…

But then again –When I was 6 or 8 (can’t remember), we went on a school trip to the circus. When I came home, I told my mom I wanted to be naked with the tiger trainer. I had NO IDEA what that meant, but I heard my friend saying that she saw her parents naked together.

Re: A friend posted this on my FB page (drawing/note her DD wrote to my son).

A few months ago I was riding in the car with my DD who was 6 at the time and her friend also 6 and I honestly nearly crashed the car when I heard what was coming out of her friend's mouth. She asked my DD " do you like such and such is hot? and then she replied I do ...I think he is so hot"...my DD was just giggling and not replying as she honestly had no idea what to say so I asked her friend what does "hot" mean...does it mean that he was hot and bothered and needed to open a window or something Chat Icon and she replied no that "hot" meant that he dressed nice and had really nice hair!

I mentioned it to her mom when she picked her up and she roller her eyes and blamed her older sisters. I do know this 6 year old was also watching Icarly, Victorious etc...so long story short I would totally think it came out of this childs mouth as a result of an older sibling or watching too much inappropriate T.V

Actually, this is a good point. ITA with you - if my DD (3 now) were to come to me with this I would talk to her about it and would certainly NOT be posting it on facebook!

I think it's Inappropriate. A sweet I love you or I want to marry you is very different. It bothers me immensely that girls are Hypersexualized in our society. From dance costumes to tv shows...it's being thrown in their faces. If my daughter wrote this, I wouldn't be posting this on Facebook. It's not cute. Sorry if I'm over the top here.
My daughter doesn't even like the idea of marriage. She says she's marrying a girl. Hey, you never know! Lol

Agreed. I'm no prude but that's a bit much coming from a 6 year old. Makes me scared for my near future. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: A friend posted this on my FB page (drawing/note her DD wrote to my son).

Unfortunately kids mimic and copy things they hear/watch on tv, songs, on their houses, etc, without even knowing the real meaning of them.

When DS was in K, I listened to girls talking about 'having a crush on…', 'being justin Bieber's girlfriends' (an doters getting so mad about that), etc. All of the moms thought it was to early to talk about having a crush on someone.

On 1st grade DS came and told me that a friend told hoim what "sixy" was… that it was being pretty. I've heard rumors now about what some girls talk pin 2nd grade that horrify me Chat Icon I'm not a prude, but I think kids are kids and there are things they don't need/have to talk about.

But as I said before, some kids have older siblings, or more access to tv or internet and they learn expressions at a very early age.
