A little sentimental story for ya...
When my Grandparents were alive they were very much into duck decoys. My Grandmother had a particularly favorite one of a Mallard couple, which she named “Molly and Mack”. They sat proudly on top of the mantle and she would always talk to them and say hello in passing. They were her “babies”. Growing up, I always called ducks, “Molly and Mack”. It became our family’s “thing”.
Years go by and my Grandmother passes after her long battle with various cancers. One day while my Grandfather was taking care of her grave site… in the middle of winter… with snow on the ground, here comes a Mallard couple, “Molly and Mack” walking by her gravesite.
A few years ago, my Grandfather had a stroke and had to live with my parents with 24 hour care. During that time, we renovated his house and I moved in. This house has been in my family for 50+ years. I grew up playing here, so did my Dad, etc. so there are a lot of memories and a lot of sentimental value to it. Shortly after I moved in, I met my DH and he moved in pretty quickly. We have since gotten married and have a baby due in June.
For the past 3 years (since I 1st moved in) we’ve had a Mallard couple come and stay with us every spring.
They returned this week
I just can’t help but think… they’ve come back to the house as Molly and Mack.
A little something to let us know they’re still here with us. Image Attachment(s):
