My daycares always moved up solely based on birthday. It was the only way to be fair. Even if a child wasn't really "ready", they were transitioned. The theory was that they will adjust to those around them & develop the skillset quicker (with the exception of developmental delays).
Thats how Bella's daycare does it. She went into a "new" class every September. Her daycare is all grouped by age. All her peers are born within just a couple of months of each other until this year (she is 4, so all the kids that missed the kindergarten cutoff in 2009 were mixed in).
I know what you mean "school" year and "camp". That's how it is where we are...but the relaxed nature in the summertime is nice...they get a ton of outdoor time, including water play...and the classes are smaller because a lot of kids don't attend summer.
I would definitely be firm with them...I feel like sometimes they see what they can get away with...a lot of people don't question as much as they should. And I would be LIVID if I didn't know about the new director....they should have sent a letter home

Nope- we are going through this right now. Grace's class was a 2 year old room until 8 kids turned 3 at the same time and they didn't have the room to move them all. So they turned it into a 2/3 room with more of a focus on learning than the 2 year old room did. Now two kids left to go to another school and they are planning on moving one more kid to the 3 year old room next week. As for my DD, nada. I know she is bored and complains that they added two new "babies" to her room. They said they had no choice since there was no room in the other 2 year old only room
I basically told our school that if there is no movement by July, we would be going elsewhere. My DD is so bored and frustrated. I am sorry they don't have the room but I have seen the complaining parent get their kid moved ASAP. Its so annoying.
