A spinoff from "I feel fat and sad"

Last night, DH and I were driving home from Bradley class, and I forgot how this came up, but I mentioned how at 30 wks, I gained 22 pounds.

He said - don't forget about the 13 pounds you gained back though - those count. So you really gained 35 pounds.

I do NOT feel the weight I lost from morning sickness counted at all. I was emaciated and unhealthy at that point. It took me into my 2nd trimester just to gain that weight back!

He then started telling me that I still have a long way to go, I could still gain more weight. I asked him if he feels I eat THAT much that I would gain more weight. He said when he sees me eat, I eat a lot, and the food hasn't been that healthy....

He sees me eat on wknds because he's rarely home during the week for dinner. We have been moving and haven't had the same food around and have been buying crap - quick things to eat. BUT I feel like I still have been careful about how much I'm eating. Yes, I have eaten chocolate and cookies, but not a ton... I buy individual little chocoltaes, or 1 cookie from a place like Whole Foods or Starbucks...

OK - I'm venting - but should I count the 13 pounds I lost from m/s?

Am I going to still gain a ton more weight in the next 10 weeks?

It really bothered me - because even though I have joked about being huge, I really am proiud of the fact that I didn't gain as much weight as I feared I would....

Re: A spinoff from "I feel fat and sad"

please do not be sad..u really look great and at this point-I kind of feel I know u and I an a honest big mouth i would tell u if u asked me,.
Swedish fish and dried mangoes do not amount to a crappy eater.
I think u eat what u need to a extent.
maybe u ate that because u were damn exhausted being prego--being sick from vomiting and moving homes..and working and cleaning...geez!

I feel like this sometimes and while in
past pregnancies I would have freaked this time I laugh.
crap..I used to be a zero and work in a top LI bar not long ago!
I gained weight from ivf--then prego with two gained alot.
We might gain more yes...we have some more time but it is unlikely anyone is going to explode at this point.
I am guessing at most** 10 pounds and thats on the high end.
i can tell u from this being my 3rd pregnancy u will lose pretty much everything in a month,.
I gained 20 with my daughter and lost 17 before Ii left hospital.
Summer is coming and life will be good.
Men aren't that great with words--u shoudl hear what I hear...
I laugh...who cares!!!

now...lets go to cold stone creamery!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Don't worry about it, you look great! I lost about 10 lbs. too my 1st trimester from morning sickness and gained hardly anything the beginning of my 2nd trimester. But towards the end of my 2nd I packed the pounds on. I almost choked when the dr. said I gained 15 lbs. I didn't feel like I did. I definitely am up a lot more now at 30 wks probably around 25 lbs. You are probably the same as me and carrying all the weight in your belly. Only recently have I really started to get cravings and feel like I needed to eat an extra meal. I am still eating what I want (I have been on an oreo kick) just making sure I still get plenty of fruits and veggies.

You look wonderful! Remember all the weight your gaining is part of pregnancy and the baby. I am just happy I didnt gain 50 lbs. Chat Icon

I don't think you should feel sad at all. You have to remember that men don't think the same way we do. My DH said something similar to me regarding weight gain and I swear, I almost decked him. You look fabulous and who cares how much weight you gain in the end. It's all for a great reason and if you lost it before, you'll lose it again. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Thanks ladies!!! Chat Icon I really appreciate it. I was so sad last night, and DH knew he made me upset and then felt bad for the rest of the night even though he wouldn't admit it - but what he said wasn't THAT bad - just hit hiome I guess....

Jeannine - I haven't even been eating swedish fish anymore!!! I forgot about that craving - but man those dried mangoes.... LOVE those dried mangoes!!! Chat Icon

I really wouldn't worry about it. Even if you gained abother 20 lbs...it is what it is. You are preggo and your body needs to gain weight. Everyone is different and gains differently. As for counting the lost weight from M/S who cares what the final number is. Nobody has to know it but you. And after the baby comes you will lose what you want to lose. Your body is never exactly the same as it was pre preggo even if the number on the scale is the same. Just enjoy the last 10 weeks and stop worrying about the weight.

by the way I think what your huisband said is kind of crappy. I would love to see men be preggo and what they would eat/gain. So easy for them to judge from the sidelines.

First of all, you look fantastic and men just don't understand and you should NOT have to justify what you are eating--at ALL!

Secondly, yes, you may gain a lot more weight in the last 10 weeks, that is when the baby gets chubby.

Honestly, don't let it bother you. I hear the opposite myself. I lost 13lbs, but I have only gained 5 back, but you were in WAY better shape that I was pre-preg!

I agree, and also your post-partum habits are what will determine what you look like after the baby, regardless of what you do now.

Re: A spinoff from "I feel fat and sad"

Men can be so thoughtless at times! If they would just stop and think about what they are saying before they actually said the words, we would all be much happier. But, they are men, so this is not an option!

I have seen all your pics, and you look fabulous! Don't worry about the numbers - if you feel good and your baby is healthy that is all that matters!

Sometimes the best way to deal with these things is with a little humor. When I first started showing and my belly was getting big, my DH jokingly called me "chubby" and said my butt was getting wide. I just looked at him and smiled and said "I'm pregnant, what's your excuse?"

It sure made me feel better!!!

Re: A spinoff from "I feel fat and sad"

You should not count what you gained back! I don't count it for me, I just go from my starting weight when I first found out I was pg. In the last 10 weeks you will probably gain a little faster than before, but thats just because the baby is putting on a lot of fat the last few weeks. I wouldn't worry about you getting huge. And I've seen your pictures, and you look great!

Exactly and the next 1o weeks will bring a good weight gain. This is when the baby really starts to put weight on so just eat well and relax. It will come off after the baby is here Chat Icon

i'm no expert but i don't think you would count the 13lbs as weight "gain" because those lbs were what you weighed when you conceived - right? in any case, you look great and you're pg - you ARE allowed to have the occasional treat as long as you're healthy. good luck

First off, all men s u c k...even the best ones simply don't get it when you get down to basics. They should get pregnant...just once.Chat Icon

Second, Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Third, I lost 7 pounds in my 5th month with my first because of the flu, cutting off ALL my hair [from mid back to 1/2" all over] and got yelled at by the dr. I certainly didn't count that weight once I "regained" it as additional pounds. I also had a bout with that wacky heartburn that made me puke for 2 days a few weeks ago...I lost 2 pounds, but by my next appt, had gained 4 [2 weeks later]...I certainly didn't say that I'd gained 8 pounds instead of 6 [or whatever it was]...

Fourth, yes, you will likely gain MORE weight...BIG FREAKING DEAL! You are gaining it mainly so your body can withstand sleepless nights, days with no food and oh yeah, the little baby growing inside that will need to fatten up in the next several weeks if s/he is to survive in the real world!

Fifth, moreChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icons

My DH and these mother hens at work tried to tell me I was eating junk food [and too much of it] becuase I had a box of fruit roll ups and ate chips with dip. Well...turns out the fruit roll ups only have 50 calories [1% of daily fat, 2% of daily sodium and 4% of daily carbs] and I eat the ranch dip you mix with sour cream...so dairy=calcium. The dr. looked at DH and said, take her to Trader Joes and buy organic chips, those are healthier. He was dumbfounded. I also eat Pop-Tarts on the days I run late...I should rot for this? I am gaining a solid pound a week...just like I'm supposed to. Me and the baby are healthy. Sometimes, I wanna tell people to #%#!%$ off!

oops, this became my own vent.

Re: A spinoff from "I feel fat and sad"

I just think in the end you can't get hung up on the numbers. How do you feel? How is your health? How is the baby's health? Yes! these are the important questions, not all these gained lbs, lost lbs to m/s....threads on the numbers are silly. If you feel good and know you're eating well (which you have already said) than whatever to the #'s. You're pregnant, worry about the scale when you are not preggo.

Dont you know that you have to take most of what men say with a grain of salt?
Your body is probably where it needs to be to grow a healthy baby.

Why is it that sometimes men seem to know the absolute WRONG thing to say when you feel your worst?Chat Icon Chat Icon
